Indeed you are correct that $200/month is too low for 2008 Moscow. My bad. My post was based on what she told me, her info however was based on what she'd earned before.

She'd been working in about 2004 before her marriage, entry level position. Official salary, 5000 rubles/month. Even with the better exchange rate in 2004, she still wasn't making more than $250.

Wages for medical employees increased quite dramatically (even doubling in some cases, albeit on a small scale) in 2005-2006 due to a Putin investment measure following protests by medical staff. Entry level doctors in Moscow are now starting at about 10-12,000 rubles ($400-480).

I have a 30-year old radiologist friend currently working in Moscow, he earns $800 (20,000 rubles) a month at a polyclinic.

Her $250 in pre-reform 2004 isn't unrealistic. Ask around. ))
