Not that kind of deployment,
Are you serious? As a military man, you would be eating at the cafeteria run by KBR or Haliburton. Do not tell me they have no meat grinders. Even without grinders, one can chop meat very finely as has been done before the advent of electricity and motors so I am a little surprised but I understand, I would be equally finicky.
Personally, having eaten all kinds of weird stuff (including snake and horse and other stuff, not for the squeamish), I think, grilled meat is a pretty safe option. Speaking of DR. I am told though that sometimes, they try to squeeze in dogs instead of goats as they sell the meat and there is a trick to identify the animal. One lives and learns, LOL.
We weren't on a FOB or even a Firebase. This was a deployment with the "Chicken Road guys" We stayed at a Hotel and we weren't technically in a war zone. We were at a party for a Key Leader in the region in the middle of no where.
Trip.
