I'm here now! You have been warned!
Oh shiiiiiiit, there might not be anything left of Sosua by the time I get there, hahaha. I look forward to reading your boots on the ground reports, they are always entertaining. Have fun, make it rain, hahaha.

Well I'm planning a trip to Columbia? Anyone know where's the best place to stay in MDE?
Also how do you pick up women? I keep hearing about Casas? Is that a club, or all women on the street up for grabs like Sosua.

Then if you get useful replies they will be accessible to other interested parties and won't clutter the Sosua section.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to post earlier, but thanks to everyone for the great tips and positive feedback regarding my doubts that a trip to Sosua would still be a great experience. You've really allayed my concerns. I just have a couple more questions. First, I'll be heading down for the first time in mid-May which I understand is the beginning of the "low" season. Will this mean Sosua won't be too crowded or there will be less chicas around? Also, I'm a little curious as to the the reason for the secrecy in regards to telling chicas when my trip will be over once I'm down in Sosua. I've traveled a lot, albeit never to a scene like Sosua, and while not volunteering the information, I never kept it secret as to the length of my stay. I'm sure there's a good reason why to do this in Sosua, I was just wondering what it is.
Thanks

-If you approach every woman in the streets as if they are up for grabs like in Sosua, you might get stabbed, or shot, or both.
-It's a great place, so long as you ain't "scurred":
a car bomb exploded in the middle of parque lleras at 10:15 pm last thursday night. 70 lbs of explosives inside a VW.
(posted over at C R T today).
It's "Colombia"; not "Columbia"
You are not wrong, but the name "Columbia" was widely used in the English speaking world in the 19th century before we gradually standardized on "Colombia".
You might think it is being courteous to Colombians to use their own name for the country, but actually it is a bit of a slight. After all, English speakers normally use "Brazil"."Spain","Italy" and "China" and not the locals' names. Why? Because those countries have been sufficiently important in our history for so many centuries that we have gradually, and in some cases ignorantly, evolved our own names for them which have passed into the English language. They were, rightly or wrongly, seen culturally as "world players" whereas Colombia was not.
I think in Colombia's case the need to distinguish it from British Columbia and the District of Columbia might also have played a part.
Political correctness of the post-colonial decades has also played a role. We now use the local names for what were Bengal, Ceylon and Burma. But not for Thailand. Why is that? I would guess because Thailand has never been a European colony so doesn't feel such a pressing need to get out from under a name imposed by Europeans.

Actually, perhaps I am an opinionated pain in the neck, but I would much rather have Ceylon than Srilanka or Calcutta rather than the new fangled idiocy. Speaking about it, when I first found out that Florence, Italy is really Firenze, Italy (Italia) , I did think it was funny what with my idiotic anglo-centric vision.
