If the casino is any indication of the hotel quality, the place must be a real dump.

The new hotel located next to SM Mall Lanang will be open in March for business. I've met the GM, a Norwegian, several times, and he's a total professional, so the place has the potential to be a good alternative to the Marco, though it's a business hotel and not a five star. The "soft" opening is February 18, and guests staying at the hotel from that date through the end of the month are going to get substantially reduced rates. I think the name is the Park Inn, and its operated by Ramada. There's another new hotel being built by Ayala next to Abreeza Mall, but I don't know when it will open.

The Staff was.

Waterfront does have some drawbacks. Cannot swim in ocean here as it is polluted. Pool is five feet deep and ten feet deep. Worse than the pool in my backyard in America which came with my home years ago (3. 5 feet and goes down to 10 feet). My lady cannot swim and at 4'11" she is a bit small. Tried to tell her she can float on her huge tits, using them as "floaters". Hotel also has a couple of obnoxious gays working in the "Cafe Uno" Restaurant where the buffet breakfast is served. I am charged for it and an additional 300 pesos for my 19 year old so I feel compelled to eat each morning. DO NOT need a couple of gay boys approaching me, offering assistance while winking away. Staff also have the rude habbit of approaching my Lady, in my presence, and speaking to her in vasayan while ignoring me. WHy do they do this? Perhpas her huge kaboonkers which she insists on leaving hanging out of her dresses. Hard to pass up a set of perrfect tits I guess.

I find it SAD that the Ape View (yes APE) Hotel as I NOW refer to it has suffered such massive deterioration in guest service and propriety just four (4) weeks after Wolfgang was either fired or resigned due to conflict. When it was the Apo View it was extremely well run and Staff was discreet. At least I "scared the tits" off the little *itch who slandered me with my Offer of a reward of 5, 000 pesos and promise to obtain justice. I had determined by process of elimination (only a few women work the front desk) which *unt it was. And tp think it was a hot looking 19 year old that she screwed me up with last Friday. I guess in the future I have to meet every Lady in the hotel lobby. Pain in the butt and it adds an extra step to the seduction process. Good thing my current lady did not encounter such a front desk witch in cebu 18 months ago. We spend a lot of time together now.

My response on the Leyte Board stated that I DO NOT approach women on the streets and proposition them for sex (good idea though). I say hello and begin a conversation. Invite them for coffee, drinks, lunch, dinner, anything that gets them to hang around. And YES, it works. In 25 years travelling in Southeast Asia, China, Japan and, of course, the Philippines the only physical conflicts I have had (fist fights, etc) were with asshole, white ex-pats. One was a German who flatly told his pals he was "crazy with anger" and was going to pick the biggest, toughest guy in the Place and start a fight. Did not work out as he had planned however. The other guys were from Canada, USA, Australia and EU. Drunk, obnoxious and intent on "suicide by proxy". Today I avoid Ex-pat dive bars and keep to upscale, decent places to avoid these situations. Not that I am too old for a good fight. But I have children now and they are usually with me.

To walk away from trouble is divine irrespective of your right or wrong in a foreign country. I have been to many of the countries and there are situations when people make comments on me or my gf but I smile and walk away.

I do not take it as an insult which requires physical confrontation. I chalk it up to their low class attitude.

Only smaller, owner-operated places like "Bon Appetit" are likely to be more selective.

I have noticed in my 15 plus years of living here in the Philippines that there has been a remarkable increase in the numbers of gay men everywhere. Not just the ladyboys but the guys who dress in men's clothes but who are very "camp" in their behavior.

I actually do not have any problem with gays as they (usually) do not affect me in any way but there does seem to be an increase in overall numbers. My friend who is Dean in a Manila university told me that he too has noticed an increasing trend of guys becoming gay in their behavior and general demeanour.

I tend to doubt that there's any actual increase in the number of gay males in the general population, but that there's an increase in overt, stereotypically "gay" (camp) behavior, there's little doubt. I'm not sure why this is. I worked for about a year here with a gay friend from Australia, who has been quite open about his sexuality for a long time, and he remarked to me that the generally outré behavior of gay males here was more prolific than in any other country in which he had worked. I look for cultural explanations, but so far haven't found any.

As to gay males as waiters, it doesn't bother me in the slightest as it has not affect on me at all. What does of course bother me is the lousy service. My friend Yves, at whose restaurant we ate last night, told me he keeps trying to explain things and to set his expectations for work performance, but the staff tend to "forget" as soon as the explanation has been provided. It also drives him slightly nuts that staff members are reluctant to admit (as in never) that they don't understand. His wife, who is a Filipina, is no more successful than he in trying to ingrain appropriate behaviors.

On another front, speaking of culturally incomprehensible behaviors, I'm am writing this while sitting at the pool bar of the Shangri-La Hotel, being served by a thoroughly charming, obviously intelligent young woman. She's a fourth year student at UP Diliman, one of the top two universities in the country, and she's serving drinks at a pool bar as part of her HRM internship. When I asked her what professional skills she hoped to develop by serving drinks to arrogant foreigners such as myself, she explained that she really wanted to work in hotel sales and marketing, but there were no internships available in that department. What a total waste of human potential. I was so amazed that a hotel of this quality wouldn't jump at the chance to take advantage of the lady's energy and brain power that I texted the Sales Director here, who responded something like: "Oh we don't let interns work in that department due to the sensitive nature of the information we have in our files." What the hell? This is a hotel, unless it's also a CIA front company.

So my struggle to understand this place and it's stupid waste of human potential continues. After about ten years here I think I understand less than I did when I first arrived.

I recently stayed 2-weeks at the Marco Polo hotel and had a decent visit overall.

Although when I attempted to check in at about 2pm I was informed there were no rooms available yet and I needed to wait a couple hours until my room was ready. I requested early check in and was not happy with the news and told the desk girl so. After going back and forth with a couple of the desk girls I asked to speak to the hotel manager.

A few minutes later a younger guy early 20's came to speak to me. I guess he was the front desk supervisor. He said to me "sorry sir we have a group of government officials checking in now and your room is not ready". I explained that I made my reservation over a month ago and I will be staying here for 2-weeks and I'm not satisfied waiting until he takes care of all of the government officials first. He again said there is nothing he can do and I need to wait. I told him I wanted to be compensated for the delay. He replied "what do you mean sir?" I suggested he give me a free night at the hotel or a free dinner. He was totaly surprised at my request and said oh no we don't do that. He suggested I go sit in the lobby bar and eat lunch and relax and wait until the room was ready. I replied ah ok are you going to pay for our lunch? No Sir we can't do that but you you can have a free Mango Juice on the hotel. WTF?

I explained to him that I picked the most expensive hotel in Davao because I wanted a Clean Room and Good Service. I told him that he was not giving me either of those things and a free Mango Juice will not fix the problem and I walked away. We sat in the bar and sipped our expensive beers. Ten minutes later one of the desk girls approached us and said "Sir your room is ready now".

Although I was happy to get in to our room I was still annoyed that I had to agrue with the staff to be given the same service they were giving the government officials.

Durring my attempted check in they forgot to ask me for a credit card to put on file for incidentals. The same supervisor guy called my room and asked me to bring my credit card to the front desk so he could put it on file. I replied ok no problem. I figured I would do this later on our way out to dinner. Well an hour later the same guy called our room again and asked when I was going to bring my credit card down. WTF? This guy was really annoying me. I told him to go wait in the lobby bar and have a Mango Juice and I will bring my credit card to him in a couple hours! He replied ok Sir.

The hotel is nice and other than the initial check-in problem the service was ok. The bell hop transportation supervisor was cool and sent us in the hotel van for free a few times because no taxi available and the restaurant manager was also very accommodating by reserving a favorite table for us in the mornings and personaly coming to shake my hand and ask me if everything was ok. The buffet is good but I noticed they recycle the food often. Meaning the ham or meat they had out looked very dry sometimes.

Regarding sex in their pool. I did finger my girl a few times.

I will look for another hotel the next time I'm in town.

What a great comeback! With that said, I must say that I have stayed at several Marriotts, Hyatts, and Hiltons that deal with early check-ins the same way. If they were totally booked the night before, fat chance in being able to get an early check-in the next day.

Overall, however, I have been generally pleased with the service at Marco Polo in Davao in my many stays there, especially considering that the Philippines is a country where customer service is a foreign concept.

Thankyou. I had a problem once with check and at MP. Told them to get the GM over so I culd file a formal complaint about the Front Desk. Got the little dicks running. Same with the credit card. Told them to come to my room with the machine for the credit card as there was "nothing short of the intercessation of the Virgin Mary" that would get me back downstairs anytime soon. And gobverrnment workers tend to spend little money in the Hotel, at least ONLY what is paid for on their stipemd Hotel IS a Far Cry better than the fucking APE VIEW hotel.

Having recently retired to Davao CityI have read with interest the comments regarding hotel problems. I also note that back. In October the girls working outside the Central Bank were rounded up. I know the mayor here is well known for a tough stance on crime and that is one of the reasons I selected Davao City as my home. Is it possible that there is a anti mongrer policy in the works?

There is NO anti mongering Policy in Davao CIty. What I encountered is the same FUCKING THING I had happen to me before at the Crowne Regency Hotel in Guadalupe. There it was a stupid fucking trainee girl openin gher stupid mouth about me. I spoke directly to the Hotel GM about it BEFORE I checked out. Made certain he understood that this was why I was leaving his Hotel after having stayed there for 12 years when in Cebu. It is also what happened to me with Jellyfish (lurker on ISG calling himself Coolerbrew) and my fat fuck nephew, the Kid. When you are seeing several different women other women DO NOT like it! And if the women you are seeing / fucking are also half your age or less, they really DO NOT LIKE IT!

At the APE VIEW Hotel (Formally called Apo View) under Wolfgang as GM, the little *itches would NOT DARE to pull this shit. But the Hotel now has a young, Filipino GM who is GM in Name Only! In the six (6) nights I was there this Trip he was NOT ONCE to be found inside the Hotel. Not easy to oversee hotel operations from your sportscar or your bed where you are fucking some filipina beauty. So NOW the young, front desk *unts feel free to say and do whatever the fuck they like. My creating a rather loud stir on BOTH Saturday and Sunday (during checkout) over the fucking, little *itch slandering me only caused embarrassment for the Hotel and may have scared the panties off the tramp, especially when I loudly stated my offer of P 5, 000 to whomever would disclose the Name of the *itch.

Women DO NOT LIKE to see men, ANY MEN, with more than one woman. Women are essentialy brought up to think MARRIAGE, MONOGAMY and BABIES. Security in a Marriage, even a lousy marriage, is preferable to living alone for virtually ALL women. A guy like Dragon Slayer, who shows up with a beautiful 19 year old with huge tits (hanging out of her blouse always) one week and has a regular flow of hot looking, young filipinas coming and going from his room another time REALLY MESSES UP THEIR SECURITY BLANKET THOUGHTS. They think that whatever I have might be contagious and their Herbie, Bong Bong, Dodong or Wimpy Willie may catch it. He could then become like Dragon Slayer and be regularly fucking dozens of gorgeous, young women. No more need for Her and Her Big Butt!

And as to the Kid and Jellyfish, that was simply two (2) cases of the "Have Nots". I set the Kid up with literally forty (40) filipinas over a 2 1/2 year period. Called in favors from other guys and literally had eevery woman I knew get him set with their lovely girlfriends and cousins. The Kid made absolutely no effort himself to meet women. Expected his uncle to do this as he has expected Family to DO everything for him (Kid was like 27 when my Mother died of a massive heart attack while doing his laundry). His succes with the 40 or so women I introduced to him was Terrible! 125lbs overweight and a very heavy smoker and alcoholic did not do much to attract young women. He had no idea how to talk with a girl, having spent his life in dive bars drinking with other drunks. Same for Jelly7fish who also had NO CLUE how to meet a Filipina. Both saw me with tons of young women and it got to the point where they just HAD TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Only thing I can think of is to make certain the women have NO REASON to contact the hotel front desk or the bellboys when they come to meet you. Changing hotel every week or less is also a good idea. And AVOID other guys who DO NOT do good with women. There are plenty of them here in Davao City and all over the Philippines. You really DO have to "Fly Solo" and become a loner. Ask yourself what did you come to the Philippines for, to hang out with other western men? OR to FUCK beautiful, sexy young filipinas! If YOU have to think this over, THERE IS NO HOPE FOR YOU. Go home and marry Fat Betty with the huge butt and Attitude!
