I don't want to make any blanket statements. There are some gems out there, there are some horrors, there are some girls that absolutely HATE what they are doing and don't belong in the trade, and there are others who appear to enjoy it. However, it is my experience that a very large number of girls, even given the option to join 70-80% of the rest of the society and get an office job or be helped out to do that by a farang, would not. One of my regulars, who has a 50, 000 baht a month sponsor, asked me how she could live if a farang only gave her 10, 000 a month. I told her 10, 000, plus your rent and food is free, he takes care of the bills, and you then stop in the bar and go to a cheap uni like Ramkamhaeng, get a basic degree that allows you to get a 12-15, 000 baht a month salary. When you add that all up, for a girl from her background, that is damn damn good. Yet I'd venture that 70-80% of them wouldn't take it. It is far easier to remain in the trade, make extremely large salaries by Thai standards per month, and sleep all day. I have had several women over the years who have gone for the former, only to drop out at some point because they would far rather take the easy way out. You don't see the office ladies earning 15, 000, who have no sponsor and work their tails off every day complaining about life and being bitter. They get on with it, smile, and make the best they can. I see girls here preying on western guilt day in and day out, and they are the masters of working it.
Well stated. It is the easy way out. No doubt about it. There are lots of girls from poor families that work their way through Uni and get jobs making 12-15k and do ok.
