Not sure how much it cost. It's room 208.. Nice big room with a bed room inside.

At 3-4 am. DJ Bobby will come and the room is equip with the necessary for him to play us music. Just for us..,. Private room and private DJ...

He play the music according to our mood... So everybody flies....

Good report - (why did you wait 20 years by the way!). You say, rightly, "... you have to move fast, as they don't get too far after entering the bar before being snatched up/latched onto..." My suggestion is that you hang around on the sofas in the lobby area and get them before they go in. That way you also save money by not paying for them (they are often in pairs) and buying drinks etc. Obviously it also saves times time and you get straight down to business.

This approach also works much later in the evening when you can get "bargains" if they haven't been picked up already. Of course the standard is likely to be lower.

The issue of overpaying, especially for BATS girls has been discussed many times and I think Knight 1001 kind of proves that you can get a "Rp 1,000,000 girl" for Rp 300,000 when he says "I see that she in fact has moved to more expensive joints (which I have quit frequenting): I had her for 300,000 Rp ... Onewave paid double that ..."

It's very easy to delude yourself (I've done it myself) that you are getting something better if you pay 1 juta in BATS and the like: you aren't.

As Mighty Spearsman says, that's a month's salary if the girl has a job such as hairdresser or waitress. Just a point on this though; many girls pretend to have a job in order to make themselves appear more respectable and in some sense, it's a way of playing harder to get and getting the price up. Let's face it, if they score in BATS even once a week for a night's "work", why would they have a job working 8+ hours a day, 6 days a week?!

When Knight 1001 did her for RP300, 000. He did not pull her from BATS.

So, his point here is that a girl of this quality can be found at a different time of day and in a different location for a lesser price.

RE: overpaying

A conversation on general pricing is a useful discussion.

But, commenting of a specif transaction, especially without ALL the facts is ludicrous. As is the concept that "the market can be ruined"

For years more transactions happen in BATS, CJ's etc by non-monger businessmen happily paying RP1, 000, 000 than all of us combined.

Has it "ruined" the market?

Based on Knight's getting Ani for Rp3000, 000 I'd say not.

The girls always ask for the moon. But they know what their bottom line is.

So negotiate.

I believe it. Heading to the bathrooms in that disco was always an experience. The hallway was always lined with sad-sack locals slumped down in a stupor that couldn't be attributed to X. No idea what they are on.

As for other bars than CJ's, the other hotel bars that everyone mentions in the same breath - BATS, Tiga Puluh - is there much difference, other than different sets of girls rotating through? While it might be months before I can get back, Im already planning my next trip. I liked the Mulia, but might try Shangri-la next time.

Think that I should mix it up with other places, to get a better feel for the nightlife here. From your suggestions, I assume that Blok M bars, Stadium, etc. would give a good mix from the 5-star bars. I'm not too adventurous yet, but looks like those are safe for westerners.

The few guys I talked with at CJ's were all visiting businessman, but guessing that larger portion of the guys are ex-pats working in JKT or area? Also seemed to be alot of local (??) Indonesians there as well. Any idea of the breakdown in the 5-star bars, between guys travelling and foreign guys working locally? Is it much different in the other area bars - I know that my local JKT contacts didn't encourage me to go out of the hotel on my own.

I never picked up anything in the Hyatt if only because I only go there for business dinners or lunch and i don't think that they have a Bats equivalent.

As for the question of which is the best pick-up bar, I believe that all the answers are in the reports of distinction, and others, that you may want to read. You will then have an excellent idea of where you should go according to your tastes, time and budget.

The Muslim holiday of Eid-al-Adha will be on Thusday, 20 December 2007.

Similar to the month of Ramadan and the Eid-al-Fitri (Lebaran) holiday, most free-standing massage parlors will be closed on both Wednesday, 19 December and Thursday, 20 December. This includes places that are combination brothels/massage such as Kartika, Super and Siera and also those places that are massage/HJ places such as JASPA (in Mal Ambassador).

Not sure about mp's that are inside hotels, such as Malioboro Hotel & Spa and the Alexis.

Night spots such as CJ's, Tiga Puluh etc. will presumably be open.

Although the Woodman did not specifically ask me, I'll throw my two cents worth in anyway:

I've never stayed at the Hyatt but it has a reputation for not being a girl-friendly hotel, so you may not have much luck trying to pick up a girl there; it's certainly not a "sure thing" in comparison with other places.

Best pick-up bar? there are many opinions here on this board. The three traditional favorites are BATS, CJ's at the Mulia and Tiga Puluh at Le Meridien (although the latter seems to have gone downhill of late). Many mongers had had success at the Blok M bars on Jalan Faletehan (D's PLace, Top gun, etc.), and there are other places as well where mongers have had success.

Knight 1001 gives good advice - check out the "Reports of Distinction" section of the Indonesia thread.

Now that you've received info from my colleagues and me here, in return please post a detailed report of your exploits here!

Grand Hyatt is in one complex with Plaza Indonesia shopping center. Bulai69 and others have succesfully done mall-hunting over there. Whether you can take your trophy into your room or not? Maybe (one of) the other members can tell.

BATS? Do a search and RTFF.

My very rich friend took a SPG from Plaza Senayan to his room in Hyatt without any problems!

I stayed there a couple of weeks go during my first Jakarta visit and as soon as I arrived decided to walk down and check out the mall. Went out the front door and down the stairs to the left.

There was a girl positioned right inside through the doors, pretending to be looking at some shop display but she had the roving eye and I had the roving dick.

About 25 years old but an excellent body.

She wanted 600, 000 but I said 300,000 but ended up at 450,000.

From the time I went looking to the time I was back upstairs in the room less than 10 minutes, maybe 5 even, and she put in a good effort, especially good BJ. I have the feeling this was her regular spot but she said she only passed by once a month.
Got to admit certainly made a good first impression of Jakarta as I hadn't even opened my bags.

No problem with hotel at all. I was only passing through for a few nights but took a guest home every night.

Checked out the bar in the hotel but it was dead.

Tried my luck with one of the cute hotel receptionists but failed dismally. I think every monger who stays there must had had a crack at her by her reaction.

First rule of mongering should be: always try the receptionist at check in and hotel waitresses.

Thee should be prizes for such things.

That is the very point I am making - the conclusion being that if you want a girl like that don't go to BATS!

As for "safety", I've been going to Jakarta for almost 20 years, I've been to some fairly dodgy places and never yet had any kind of problem other than taxi driver's trying to rip me off (easy to avoid).

I would say the majority of westerners in 5 star hotel bars are occasional visitors who probably don't venture far from their own hotel - which is why girls ask, and often get higher prices there. Blok M bars provide more of a haven for long standing expats, hence prices are lower there.

You won't find many reports in here on successes in the Hyatt - there is a bar in there which changed it's name a couple of years ago and I had two "scores" in there out of maybe a dozen visits while I was staying there. The first was an out and out hooker who wanted 300USD for short time which I eventually negotiated downwards to 60USD (still too much). On another occasion, around two years ago I met a group of 4 or 5 girls who persuaded me to buy 3 bottles of champagne (charged to unwitting client). This was a fantastic occasion: in summary the one I finished up with was living in 1,000,000 USD appartment and drove a top of the range BMW. We got stopped by the police as she sped down Sudirmann at 130 kph; she said "don't you know who I am?" - they looked alarmed and told her to drive off. I think that was a "one-off", certainly I've not experienced since!

Mighty Spearsman is correct in that the Hyatt is not very girl friendly even with residents, but as always the problem can be solved with a small "tip".

It's also the case, as Menteng says, that Plaza Indonesia/eX is good for mall hunting and certainly some girls exploit this fact. Certainly many pimps do; they can often be found on the top floor (of PI) after about 8pm, though I wouldn't recommend them as I said in recent report. Certainly there is no problem taking the girl back in to your room - the only time problems arise is if the girl is alone, going in or out. It's also worth remembering that girls who work in PI can also be picked up as well (see pages around 270 in the older Jakarta thread - observant Hyatt guests will note that some photos were taken in a Hyatt bedroom!)
