After some rnr in Floripa, made it back to Rio on Halloween for my last four days in Rio. Flew into Santos Dumont and walked over with suitcase to the vlt. Took the train and got off at Candalaria, crossed the two streets and check into the Windsor at the corner of Rio Branco and Presidente Vargas. Great location if you intend to monger in centro, but again not girl friendly after you register your first guest. After unpacking, first stop Centro star at are / be 156 #2622. Before going I had a list of three names that got good reviews, Jade, Dani and Brenda. In the presentation I saw Dani and Brenda, both looking good but then the last girl to come in was the best looking girl. I had to ask twice what her name was and both times it sounded like Ga-ji. Now in the back of my mind, I still wanted to go back to Cancun for a repeat with Mel, so if I don't hook up with one of the ones I like here, next stop Cancun. I get a drink and have a seat and just chilling having a good time soaking it all in. One girls sits by me and I tell her I'm waiting for a girl to get free. She asked which one, I told her the one in the next room near reception but I don't know her name. About 10 minutes later, this girls has the girl I want with her. She asked me, is this the one? I said yes and I thank her. The one I was waiting for is named Luna. I asked her wasn't she busy? She said yes and if I could wait a few minutes she should be freed up. Tomorrow Nov. 2nd is a holiday and everything will be closed. I didn't see that one coming. I was mad at myself for not checking out the holidays before I left home. So I asked her what about Thursday? She said yes and I told her I would be back that day. Walk over to Cancun. What a difference, the party atmosphere at Mv30 did not carry with me to Cancun. At Cancun maybe 8 guys with about 20 girls with more of a mellow atmosphere. Waited just about an hour for Mel, but never saw her. Went to reception and they told me she wasn't working today. So I hang out a bit and some girls who I believe were in the whiskeria came into the boite. One slim blond girl caught my eye so called her over. Her name is Simone. I will be travelling solo in Rio from mid December to Early January. I have read the forum and have shortlisted places I would like to visit. Termas MC, Termas Cancun, 4 X 4. Now I don't speak Portuguese and pretty much stand out as a Gringo.

I really want to visit the low tier Termas in Centro and the Trash areas. Any safety precautions I should keep in mind or should I just stick to the costlier termas. I am not rich BTW.

Also, I have tracked few GP from gparena. Is it safe to have them over at one's hotel or is it an invitation to be being scammed?

Any kind folk, please help me out to plan better and I will pass the goodness around.

Go where ever you want to go. Some lower tiers will have no gringos so it depends on you as a person. Some are fine, some are intimidated.

Trash areas with no portugues will guarantee some inflated prices and getting hustled at times but its all a learning curve.You know VM for 1 hour shdnt be more than 130...half hour 50/60 etc roughly.
Prices are listed in T31 etc and MC,4 x4 etc u can see prices......dont tip everybody..maybe cloakroom lady in MC! shes great. f the rest

Check your hotel is GF. Got to book for 2 upfront. Etc. Bring them over. Lock your shit in the safe. Usual safety precautions.

Those of you who arrived in Galeão the last 1-2 months, when you passed the customs with your bags, did all the passengers have their bags x-rayed?

I know they used to examine random passengers who got a red light when pressing a button. A few times I've seen them x-ray random passengers bags. However the last years I've only seen one custom guy around not checking nobody at all.

I'm curious if they have changed their routines and starting to x-ray all the bags of the arriving passengers ( a rumour I heard)? I'm not bringing anything illegally, just too much of some stuff that's being limited to a low amount.

Customs is looking to up their revenue stream by taxing the electronics Brazilians typically purchase abroad. If you're bringing electronics or "gifts" into the country, just make sure everything is out of the box.

The last few times I entered Brazil in Sao Paulo (GRU Airport) there was no customs control whatsoever. No X-ray machines, no button to push, no-one in uniform to even stand there to scan the crowds.

I just came through customs on Tuesday with two large suitcases. I was sent to the X-ray machine. It did appear that all the people at the X-ray machine had many bags.

Also, people in front of me with little luggage were waved on through.

I had many electronics in my luggage but I was not questioned. They X-rayed my luggage and sent me on through.

Need the advice of Rio experts.

I had a good friend (not a working girl) who wanted to get her tourist visa to visit America. She owns a home and has a job. She asked if she could use my name when she went to the embassy and I agreed. I told her that she should probably go to Rio because it was much easier to get a visa in rio than it is in sao paolo. (I know former help girls who never had a regular job in their lives and they all got visas in rio.) They didn't give her a reason, they just denied her. Now she wants to know what she can do, if she should try going to rio now. I told her I was pretty sure that once you get denied, you are fucked. You can forget about getting a tourist visa now.

Is there any one from the board who knows if that is the case? CCn you still get a tourist visa after you have been denied?

The plan was that all the bags would be x-ray as they came off the planes and passengers with suspicious bags identified. They actually tested this and found it unworkable. What would happen is you would be waiting for your bag and an agent would come up to you and tell you your bag was in another area. Customs deemed it more trouble that it was worth and went back to the you seem to have a lot of stuff method.

BTW, there is a separate location off the airport where they take commercial cargo that did not pass inspection as well as items confiscated from passengers. There they post the legal notices and it is auctioned or stolen as the case may be.
