the Salvador scene is poor compared to the Rio's one.
there are a lot or ugly black chicks on the road (the same as in Rio) and the frees announcing on internet cost more than their collegues in Rio and are far away from that amazing level.
if you find a black tall girl announcing as SIMONE, listen to me, avoid her like a desease. she's disappointing, ugly and boring and the service really sucks.
I had a better meeting with Julia Furtado, announcing on cyberclass, a tiny, spicy blond youngster.
if you want to hook up some pros, go for the aeroclube, a big mall with some botecos (bars) in a sort of plaza.
if you really want to enjoy, Rio is your place!!

ok, this is from a couple years ago. i started my trip further down the coast and made my way by bus to salvadore and then further north.

the bus route i took terminated at the south side of the bay whereupon i transferred to a ferry. i normally would have taken the slower ferry (cheaper, less noise/vibration, more pleasant) but it was getting late in the afternoon, i still needed to find a room, and the fast ferry was ready to go. the bay itself if gorgeous but the trip was otherwise uneventful. arriving at the ferry terminal i found lots of taxi's and others willing to "help" but it all felt like i was being hustled. eventually, i walked 1 block to the main road, turned right, and a couple more blocks to a bus stop... the main road was busy/noisy and i didn't yet have my bearings (or a decent map). fortunately, i was directed by others waiting at the bus stop as to which bus to catch and then where to get off. that led me to the elevator that carries you up the cliff directly into the heart of pelourinho. fortunately, although sunset was approaching fast, the tourist info center at the top of the elevator was still open. they helped me select a hotel and made some calls for me. then they gave me a map and sent me on my way. my selected hotel was a long way, up and down steep hills, over cobblestone streets, with confusing house numbers (each house seemed to have two numbers and they did not appear to be in any sort of order). along the way, i was pestered by a young guy who wanted to "help" me and simply would not go away until i approached a cop. the cop reassured me that i was headed the right way, told the young guy to bug off, and said i should just ask another cop for help if the guy kept bugging me. well, a couple blocks later the guy was back pestering me again, but i finally convinced him that he would get a single real from me and he left. at last i arrived at my hotel where they quoted me a higher price than i was told at the info center; and the room was on the fourth floor (no elevator) a long way from the center of activity. i had passed many hotels along the way, so i started heading back. i inquired at some but most were fully booked. finally, a couple blocks before i got back to the info center, i saw some guys hanging out on the balcony of a hotel and i called to them to ask if the rooms were okay. they said "yes" and, in a moment, another young guy was ushering me inside. the place was very cheap and rather seedy (no window, but a big mirror beside the bed, thick dust, a dribble for a shower) but it was well located, things were getting late (i didn't want to miss the evening fun), and i was tired/hot/sweaty, so i just took it. the matronly woman took my money and warned me not to bring any **** garotas as she didn't want any trouble. this was the big weekly party night in pelourinho (thursday night?), so i took a quick shower and left to explore the fun.

crowds were everywhere with people making noise, eating, drinking, dancing, etcetera. i found a busy outdoor restaurant to my liking and enjoyed a relaxing, tasty dinner while people-watching. once i finished, i joined the crowds and took a stroll around the streets. almost immediately a cute blond headed the other way caught my eye (or i caught hers). although the crowds were sweeping us in opposite directions and i made no attempt to find or wait for her, she quickly found me again. i was standing watching some kids beat out a rhythm on some drums and she just stepped up beside me and lightly pressed her right breast into my left arm. that got my attention! in a minute, we were talking and walking together like old friends. i generally steered her toward my hotel and, as we were walking by, i asked if she likes the "program". her response: "more or less". so i asked "more more, or more less?" to which she said "more more" and we got down to discussing price/service, etc. a girlfriend of hers was walking with us, so she told the girlfriend to wait at a cafe and she joined me in my hotel room. i gotta say this thin, small breasted blond was very hot and i still delight in the memory of eating her pussy as she sat up straddling my face. later, i was introduced to her friends at the cafe (there were now about 10 of them) but declined their invitation to join them. instead i wandered off to find a peaceful beer and some solitude.

well, the solitude was not to be. two other young women came by wanting to talk... eventually, they got me to buy them a beer and soon one was saying how the other wanted to fuck me -- no charge, etc. well, i was taken in and soon had them both back in my hotel room. big mistake. they were trying to get me drunk and, although we got naked together, they were resisting my advances. it wasn't long before i discovered that one was in the bathroom with my suitcase trying to figure out how to get inside while the other was keeping me busy. that got me pissed and i ordered them out. things got kinda ugly but i finally got them out of the hotel (one actually slugged me as she was leaving, which knocked off my glasses). back in the room, i discovered that they had managed to tear up the whole side of my bag. still, i thought they got nothing but discovered later they had managed to steal a nice pair of mini-binoculars along with some brand new designer presciption sunglasses. but i shrugged the whole thing off; it was only money and i wasn't hurt in any way. i had been warned that pelourinho is dangerous. i just had dropped my guard.

by now it was getting late, but i wasn't terribly sleepy, so i walked out to the main square and saw this big-breasted hot black woman with a tight body and a gorgeous ass. yup, i couldn't resist and she spent the rest of the night with me in my room. however, the next morning i checked out and took a taxi to a fancier hotel in a nicer neighborhood. i survived one night (and had fun) in pelhourinho but i wasn't going to push my luck.

The Farol de Barra area has many small pousadas to stay in. Pousadas are sort of a bed and breakfast place. All are girl friendly. The state run airport tourist office has a huge list of them and can arrange a reservation for you upon your arrival at the airport.

It's my fourth time in Salvador (April 2005), and I love the city, so it's time for an update report.

Most foreigners stay either in Pelourinho (the old colonial center) or in Barra. Free-lances abound in both places but are often low quality and unsafe, especially in Pelourinho (a typical scam is to have you robbed by an accomplice after sex, when you're in trust of the girl).

On Monday I went to Casquinha de Siri, a Salvador institution, a place where you find many free-lances (mostly black) : quite a few beauties ! There's live music and dance.

Prices are as follow : 30R$ for the taxi, 15R$ couvert (entrance fee), 4R$ a beer (expensive), the girl should be around 100R$ (30 EUR)for a few hours, you should bring her to a motel. The main motel area "rua dos prazeres" (street of pleasures) is not far away.

Motels are mandatory. They have names like Decameron, Kamasutra, Paradise etc. For 38 R$ you can stay 4 hrs in a luxury suite with round bed with mirrors, jacuzzi, special furniture for acrobatic positions, porn on tv, music. You may drink and eat as well, and buy sex toys.

Casquinha is open mon-sat, monday is free-lance night. On other nights you find more regular prostitutes (safer according to taxi driver).

Anyway if you are young and handsome (which, halas I'm not) don't bother, just go chase girls in shopping malls...

Afternoon diversion : The "Relax" is situated in Ondina, a bit further north from Barra, rua Baependi 6. Open from 3 pm on, a gate in a pink wall gives you access to a courtyard and then to a lounge with a swimming pool, some tables and a sofa on wich several girls are waiting. I went up with a nice slim morena to a room upstairs, big bed, shower, clean towels, and had a nice session. 150 R$ for the girl, the room and a beer.

Wish you had posted this information a month ago. A few friends and I flew over to Salvador for 3 days. I went to Casquinha de Siri, but wasn't impressed. The food was great. The women OK. I got sick, so maybe that had something to do with it, but for my money, I'll stay in Rio. Although I must say Rio was a bit of a downer for me this year to. Agencies are an expensive option but you should get better quality (didn't try it personnally).

I will be here for 2 more weeks.

Here are my observations:

1) Its not a monger haven like Rio, but there is nuff a$$ in this city to say the least. I am staying out by Itapua, close to Casquina Siri and Aeroclubbe, and have found some talent at both places every night. There are plenty of street tail too, even during the day around Praia Patamares and Pituba, and Piata for that matter. Its not overwhelming, and you cant just walk there, but its there. It is more tranquilo here and more chill. Rio ain't really Brazil it seems compared to here.

2) This city is amazing for regular talent. Shopping Barra and Aeroclubbe have some fine hoes working there, shopping there, and hanging out. I wish I knew much more Portuguese than I do, but everyone is friendly.

3) The boites suck. Don't waste your time. Too expensive to enter, leave, drink and bang. Just go to Casquina if all else fails and order take-out for just 120R for the night.

4) Better yet, learn some good Portuguese and pick-up any of the many many many many hot girls that work at stores, restuarants, etc. They are everywhere if you like brown and black bubbles.

I was gonna leave in 5 days after chilling in Barra. Now I am enrolling in a language class and staying for another 10 days!

Advice needed!

Together with a friend I´m going to visit the Cocoa Coast ( Itacare, Ilheus, Olivença, Una, Canavieiras ) in august. We want to visit a friend, who lives over there since some years.Besides Mongering we want to travel by bus and see the Mata Atlântica, cocoa plantage and cities.

So trouble started, when we were unable to phone him. In the meantime his parents let us know, that he got robbed in his own house with wife and kid being around.

Beforehand we thought, that Brazil bears some risks, but doable if you are not stupid. Now we are a little bit worried, if it is wise to go there although the flight already is arranged.

Any advice of experienced travellers and locals is very much appreciated, even it´s only from newspaper.

Has the safety of the area changed?

Should we not go by bus?

Should we stay clear and go to Rio or Fortaleza instead?

Any mongering info also welcome!

Travelling by bus is quite pleasant in Brasil and well organized. Renting a car is another (not very expensive) pleasant option.

Its far from the outer city beaches, Casquina and Aeroclubbe and Fashion Clubbe, which are huge, but close to centro and Pelo (which has a more bustling nightlifein general). You can stay in [url]www.praiadasereia.com.br[/url], but its farther from everything but Aeroblubbe and Casquinha...it is way more chill out there, and a feel for 'real' Salvador since its not too touristy out there.
