Thanks, but no luck. I gave it a try but MSN messenger does not list area code 829 as a country code selection.

You may want to set up a hotmail account (now called live. Com) for the chica you want to text. After the account is set up, sign into msn messenger with the new account, click tools, then options, then click phone, then click mobile settings and a new page will open where you can register the phone number to receive messages from msn messenger.
But you will already have to be on some sort of data plan no?
Plus wouldn't you be on roaming?

I would imagine the person receiving the messages has to pay. With the pay as you go cell phones in the Dominican Republic, I don't know what the charges are to send and receive text messages.

Jaosousa I am still at a lost for why I can't send messages to 829 area code. I tried the MSN messenger thing and MSN also does not recognize 829 area code. I have never had a problem sending text messages to 809 area code. I just don't know.........just don't know

The Person that you know with the number has to a get it change. I know 2 chicas with that area code and they had to get the numbers changed. You either get a busy signal, or a message saying it's not in service.

Thanks, I was beginning to think I was the only one with this problem. When in the DR I have no problem with text messages only when I am in the states do I have problems.
Just curious, is it a problem with Orange or a problem with all 829 numbers?

I have a problem texting Claro #'s. The recipients tell me the get blank messages all the time. Orange numbers no problem for texting. But the cell service lately has been real spotty.

I see a magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti, centered near the city of Port-au-Prince today.
I certainly feel for those in Haiti, but my exposure to the island of Hispaniola is the DR only.
Does anyone have any knowledge of any effect to the DR?

I chatted with a girl from Santiago and she said that the people went out to the streets screaming but there were no damage, it was felt more in the north part of the country, BQ Ribs which is in Santo Domingo though he was having a shaking orgasm when he was with a chica but it was the bed that moved for a few seconds.

I've got a 2 week vacation next month to DR and I'm torn between staying in SD and or BC or getting a bus up to Sosua, when I land in Santo Domingo airport - of course I will stay at least a day or 2 in SD first. On the basis I'm just here to enjoy the ladies and on a budget, where do I go to get the best bang for my bucks? And which is best value when it comes to hotels/apartments?
Sorry if this question has been asked before. I have looked through previous posts but I still can't determine where's best for me. I'm a frequent visitor to Thailand and comparing say Pattaya to Phuket for everything, Pattaya comes out cheapest as it's awash with women and hotels, so it's much more of a buyers market. Can you make similar distinctions in DR?
