It's been twelve years since my last visit. Although I made annual pilgrimages to Thailand every year since I lived in Bangkok, for some reason I never visited Pattaya.

The sheer number of venues is overwhelming. There are so many gogos, beer bars, and freelancers you could spent a lifetime, and all your money, exploring it. I don't think soi LK Metro even existed last time I was here.

I wasn't even sure where to start. I figured Walking Street would be a good place, so I went there last night. The number of Chinese tourists in the street is ridiculous. I don't understand why they come here. Some guy randomly punched me in the stomach. One of the advantages of Angeles is that the only reason to go there is the girls, so you don't have to deal with tourists.

I visited quite a few bars. It's nice that many of them have cheap draft beer. There was a super hot totally naked dancer at Shark, but it was too early, so I moved on.

There are a number of lookers, but I seemed to be visiting bars for Japanese, where the girls are all dolled up, and don't give any attention. I wandered into Electric Blue. The driver was courteous and drove safely to the hotel despite having to navigate the Songkran traffic into Soi 8 so I paid her the 1200 Baht with a good tip. Hats off to Mr T for the excellent service.

It was a toss up between Areca and Flipper Lodge when I booked the hotels but decided on Flipper because it was slightly cheaper but made sure I was in the new section of the hotel. The staff at the front desk were friendly and got through the check-in process in quickly so time for a hopefully a scout around the area wrong. Was dripping wet within 10 m of leaving the front steps and this was to continue until Mon "Mai Pen Lai" you have to experience Songkran at least once in your life. Managed to find a place for dinner then back to one of the bars in Soi 8 for some beers.

The next day was wet again only worse because it was a full on water battle. Managed to get walk down to Walking St in the evening (Beach Rd closed to traffic) and have a look around there. This was same same as most gogos in LOS and nothing special so off to Crystal. Walked into this place, saw one customer, no girls on stage, no music so did the 180 and left. I was getting depressed this stage so decided to do the bucket list thing at the Den. Without going into all the details I think I would repeat with some changes like knowing what you exactly want etc etc. David the manager was professional and the girls did their thing so all in all a win win.

Tues was going to be a low-key day so after lunch at the Beer Garden dinner at Robin's Nest decided to look into Showgirls. This was the normal LOS gogo but some real stunners (8-9) amongst the providers and friendly without being obvious that they wanted your Baht. Wed was nearing the end of stay in Pats so the usual lunch at the Beer Garden and dinner in one of the many Thai restaurants along Beach Rd decided to pick-up another.

Provider after some beers at The Cave. This time the bands recognised me from last night and the owner introduced me to his business partner so after a few rounds and a good tip for the band I made my excuses and left. Wandered into the Office although I remembered a few postings about this place but the brain was not switched on or was it the beer. Anyhow was accosted by #95 (forgot the name) and had a few rounds before negotiating a LT deal. Got back to the hotel and after an hour she wanted to leave (I guess this is the expectation of 333 again of which I am not). They include Thais but not all Thai people and even some Falang. But just as the planes coming to Thailand for "Water Festival" are full of tourists who are told about this bucket list experience (har-har! The planes leaving are also carrying many of expats who live at least some of the year in LOS. Vietnam or Cambodia were of my usual escape points and I once spent a very happy Songran in Indonesia. Laos and Burma practice water festival too with much water throwing but with less danger, at least that was the way it appeared when I used to live full-time in SE Asia.

There is not a lot you can do about looking Asian. But if you go to the parts of Thailand where there are still some mongering opportunities but less of the industrial vibe, I think you will avoid the issues with 333 and such nonsense. The secret is to get to know the ladies in quieter bars. That is, if bar ladies are what you are after. Even in Pats, you can go to the outlying bars where the music is not so loud and you can get to know the ladies.

An alternative is to go to the oily / massage places in places like Bangkok and other cities. Fixed prices, no nonsense. Personally, for bar ladies and FLs, I would go to the more quiet places. Hua Hin, for instance, or Ko Chang where the vibe is more easygoing and you can get to know the ladies first. And the ladies are less jaded and industrial in their outlook.

Cheers[/QUOTE]Yes throw a stone and it will land on a scooter rental place. They are everywhere. If you rent short term, not much difference in the price from one to the other.

If you rent a scooter and ride it without a helmet, be prepared to be stopped on beach road by the police station. Sat in a bar next door and watched tourist after tourist being stopped, some even had helmets on and had to show paperwork. Amazingly no thai's pulled over, a motobike with an attached frame with there thai's all without helmets was stopped but just because the light went red and they didn't seem to be stopping. Cop let them go on after it went green.
