However, I don't like anyone's chances of keeping a "good" girl unmarried long term after 27 or so. Defacto / Common Law relationships are far less common there and she will be under immense pressure to marry and would likely be looking outside for a ring if out guy wasn't providing one.

I had an incident a few months ago in Colombia with my last girlfriend. She threatened to pack her things and go home. No arguement from me. I said go then. She did not go. I am planning a solo South East Asia trip in the first week of April and am about to book my tickets.

I can accommodate just two weeks of mongering with a bit of snorkelling / hiking and sightseeing on the side, which makes it difficult to decide to choose between Manila, Bangkok & Phnom Penh.

Need sound advice. Will Manila trump Bangkok in the department of quality, ease and cost? I have been to Bangkok already.

Wait until you are in town if you can. If you have T-Mobile, you can get free data although you will probably want a different SIM card to keep your main number discreet.

Ease will depend upon where you plan to go in both places, and your familiarity of all the options out there. Quality, I assume you are referring to the girls; and in all my years all I can say is that I still cannot make a comprehensive rating comparison between PI and BKK girls. Both have there advantages and disadvantages, so for me there is no way to compare them against each other, it just depends on what I am wanting at that time. Sort of like android and ios, I like um both. Both have their strong and weak points, so if you can make a decision great (yeah I use both). Bkk and PP is easier to make a comparison between the girls, but impossible to do a BKK to PI girl.

Diving for sure PI, hiking and sightseeing with only 2 weeks. I guess I would need a breakdown of your time assessment for each, but if mongering is your priority, then that leaves very little time for those.

Then again the kiosks offer a package deal with the SIM card which is cheaper than else where.

But a peso saved is a peso earned.

If you purchase a p300 load at the airport for p300, your phone will load +300. If you make the same purchase at a 7-11 in town, your phone will load +300. The cost of the SIM card itself is the same in each location, and at the airport they are happy to install it for you in your current phone. What is the greater cost at the airport?

T-Mobile. You get free and unlimited data / Internet usage, at 2 g speed. Its so slow that many websites will time out. Try this trick: In Manila, in your gringo phone, insert your Smart (or Globe) SIM card, and watch the bars. Probably you will see the 4 G / LTE symbol and several bars. Run a speed test, don't be surprised if its about (speeds can vary wildly) 40 mbps download and 20 mbps upload. That's not unusual. That's plenty of fast enough to web browse, use your Google Maps to navigate, WeChat, and stream movies to your laptop (hotspot) all at the same time. Next, replace your Smart SIM with your T-Mobile SIM, and watch your speed indicator say G, or even disappear (meaning 2 G). Run another speed test and notice this typical speed: 1-2 mbps download, and well under 1 mbps upload. These speeds are good for: timeouts.

Certainly that is a t-Mobile slowdown, as the same local network runs much faster on a Smart / Globe card. A guy at a T-Mobile store told me that is T-Mobile's attempt to get you to upgrade your out-of-country and hotspot to their faster speeds -- for a monthly fee.
