Just like a tennis match...
Thats your opinion and you are entitled to it.
Yes, all ISGers have opinions. It's just some are more objective, positive, and provide useful information about hotels like Livingstone's Lodge. And, for unknown reasons some others like to whine a lot, have unknown agendas, and/or have rusty axes to grind. Just a microcosm of life, really.
I would say the rooms are overpriced for what they are and what you get. The Sports Bar is, IMO, a rip off in terms of pricing.
I wouldn't say that, and I've stayed at a lot of other BKK hotels, eat at restaurants, and visit massage parlors and go-go bars on a regular basis. Compared with most hotels, the peripheral expenses at LL are reasonably priced. Every woman I've gone with from the Sports Bar has been very nice.
Soi 33 is not an ideal location by any means, it can be a complete nightmare to get a taxi in or out of, and if you are short on time for the airport you might run into some really nasty traffic jams at certain times of the day.
You could say this about almost every soi in Bangkok at rush hour. Besides, a smart traveler always leaves plenty of time to get to the airport in this day and age.
Soi 33 itself is ok, but I prefer to be nearer to the lower Sukunmvit area. If you like being tucked up there in Soi 33 then thats your choice.
I prefer not to stay on Lower Sukhumvit as I find that there are way too many land sharks of various species always cruising the waters. I like Soi 33 because there are many good places to eat, have a massage, or get special services nearby. It's got an easy going feeling with plenty of flash. You are also close to Sois 22 & 24, the Emporium, and some good bars and restaurants on Sukhumvit Rd.
You can always hop on the BTS to Lower Suk at night, have a little fun at Nana or wherever, snag a filly for a night of fun, then catch a taxi back to Soi 33 with no problem whatsoever. It's an even easier walk to Soi Cowboy from LL as it only takes about 10 minutes, and then a taxi back takes less than five minutes.
To quote some of your words "Sure, you can find something a little closer to some of the action, a lot newer and flashier, and probably a bit cheaper to fit a budget". Yes, for sure you can get newer, nicer, flashier and closer to the action.
Good, we agree on something. But why follow all the sheep? Flashy, nice and new are often delivered cold, sterile and lifeless.
As for the "home" feeling. If you want to feel "at home" then go stay with your wife/mum. I certainly do not need a homely feel, I want a functioning room where lots of action is going to take place. Stuff you would not be doing at "home".
TP, it sounds like you never get any action at "home." Too busy with the ladies of the night maybe?
LL's rooms are fine for taking one or more girls back "home" to play. The beds have just the right amount of cushion for the pushin'. The showers are big enough for three, the sheets are soft, and extra towels are readily available. All the women I've brought there really like it and have told me so.
I like to stay at places where, especially in chaotic Bangkok, I feel relaxed and welcome. Livingstone's Lodge is this type of place.
Next time...Livingstone Lodge
Nothing I hate worse than whiny, self-important trolls.
I think the next time I come to BKK, I'm going to stay at Livingstone Lodge.

PS: I will not, however, try any of those funky African meals at the steakhouse!! LOL
