You have hit the nail bang on the head and that is the problem..the freelancer scene is drying up at the moment.... but I think this is partially seasonal...we are at the end of the tourist season and things are a bit "fished out" right now...wish the Scandinavians would abide by the "catch and release" policy but they seem to want to take them back to their homeland ..

Still some gems in the rough out there but you just have to search a lot harder...also freelancers are more prevalent at the end of the month when money is running out....

i agree that thailand is getting too expensive with the strong baht, even if you're not from the us, because there are other countries wher you can spend us-pegged currencies.

the change rate has doubled in thailand since 1998 when the baht was at 60 to the dollar, in addition prices rose.

a fs session in macau, if you know where to go, in a place comparable to tulip is 1400 baht at the current exchange rate, no tips expected. and from hk the ferry to macau is way cheaper than the ticket to bkk.
include the ferry and a taxi to the account and the session costs you 2440 baht. then take some pints of macau lager at 92 baht watching the glamour girls at the sands before heading home at any desired time during the night.
no hotel charges involved. and if you have a job in hk you most likely make more money than most farangs could dream of in bkk.

bangkok has never been the cheapest place in recent years, unless you go to sanaam luang or suan lumpinee.
pattaya is not far away.

I yelled that the meter is paid with coins, as far as I know there are no 500 baths coins. I gave 100 baths, and the guy asked me for another 100 for the "return" which stupidly I gave.

I was off to a small Shukumvit Hotel, so I decided of a new plan. I asked them to drop me off at Sheraton Grande Shukumvit and maybe I can get some security guys to take care of those guys.

When we arrived at Sheraton the meter was at a whooping 7500 baths! 150 EUROS taxi ride most expensive ever especially as his car stinked

I got off and they kept trying to to scam me for the 7500 baths. As the guy didn’t really go inside the Sheraton premises, but stopped in front on Shukumvit. I got scared to yell for the cops, thought it could waste another 3 hours of my time. So after a few minutes where the guy told me to pay the meter fare. We settled at 700 baths. Which of course is still a scam!

Anyway, did anyone ever had the same problems?
