I arrived yesterday and for the second time in 16 years I am staying at a hotel instead of an apartment. My first time here in 2001, my wife and I stayed at the Windsor on Av Atlantica. It was really cheap back then. This time I am at the JW Marriott. This place is nothing like I expected. The rooms and even the lobby are much smaller than other JWs. From the room architecture and design, it appears this place was built in the 1920 however with modernization done. At least they upgraded me to a beach view.
I had arranged for 2 Cupid chicks that I have been talking to for some time to come. I would meet up with one of them at 2 pm and the other at 6 pm. The 6 pm chick let me know early that she could not make it. I cursed her out and told her never to contact me again and deleted her. It is funny how these chicks never have anything going on, then when you are in town all kind of unforeseen things pop up and all kinds of problems arise.
The 2 pm chick was playing some kind of game. At 11 am I asked her to come early and she was like no, she would come at the right time..
As I said, Rio dating sites are a waste of time. If you have game, just walk around and use it. If you don't, pay. Over the years I have been hanging with a number of termas girls at the exact time they told a gringo they were going to meet up. These are girls who could have made some money but decided they preferred where they were. Imagine girls who aren't getting paid. If the girl has a job it is a good sign. If she looks like she actually is doing her job, that is another good sign she is not a flake.
More on the Copacabana scene
HELP or anyother big place like it will not come back to zona sul. Ever. Look at the Museum of images that for 7 years has been "under construction" in its place. Name me anywhere in the world where a building could be allowed to be on its way for 7 years in one of the best real estate addresses? LOL. Payola, kick-backs and purposeful overbudgeting (padding the budget) so the politicians can get money back under the table.
As long as they can keep this going they will.
Remember that Cabral was the reason Termas stayed open as it was an open secret the governors/mayors office got paid from them to stay open. And to service them.
He then became the gov of Sao Paolo state hence the strong p4p scene there!!!
You now have an evangelical (TV Evangelist) mayor and an anti-sex destination attitude in Rio and sweeping the country in line with the rise of the protestant ultra conservative evangelist church-fastest rising part of the population overtaking catholics soon. This does not spell good news for us mongerers..
I agree with most of what you say.
Help's major problem was its popularity and its location. It was situated bang in the middle of prime Avenida Atlantica real estate, where wealthy cariocas live, and I think they tired of the scene in front of Help every night / early morning. It was hard on the management of Help because whilst they ran an excellent disco and maintained order inside, they couldn't control the street scene outside. Eventually something had to give.
Any new disco is unlikely to be in such a prime location and may even be well away from Copacabana, perhaps Lapa or Centro.
As for the talked about railway to Sao Paulo, the government is broke, and it is unlikely to be funding any infrastructure projects while they struggle to pay pensions. This financial crisis in Brazil has many more chapters to be written.

If you do not use Uber then you are fucking yourself over. No more of that bus and train and taxi stuff for me. Uber is so cheap here that you almost feel sorry for the drivers. Last night me and my girl went from Lapa to Copa for 13 reais. I think it would have been 10 on the train plus we would have had to walk to and from each station.
