Yes, it has been pacified which mean there are cops patrolling, but do be aware before you plan a visit. In July, a helicopter with tourists was forced to land after being shot. Also in July one of those cops was ambushed and killed. The view is incredible and the restaurant / bar Safado69 mentioned has a van that will pick you up.

I hear what your saying. When I was 40, I could probably get away telling a Brazilian girl I was 35. Beyond that, it would be ridiculous. I never actually lied about my age to Brazilian girls. It's always good to be prepared. I was checking out a bunch of the local forums comparing with my own privê-list. It was good to see that there have opened more privées on RB156, RB185, Av Pres Vargas and Av Treze de Maio 33 and 47. Propably some of these "new" ones are old ones that have moved.
