You never know if the kid is working with a gang and the moment you put your hand on him you have a gun to your head. Places like SP, Caracas, etc. , have reps bc you need to always be aware of your surroundings.

That said, on your advice, I'll take look at Sao Paulo. I speak English and French, and have been working hard to build up my rudimentary Spanish, but I have no Portuguese. Could I have you opinion as to how much of a problem it will if I lack any command of Portuguese?

I hate to surrender my passport, but never had a choice, not even in my hotel.

They sealed it in an envelope and put it in a safe, but they still were in possession of my passport.

Everywhere I have ever been they only wanted to copy the passport. NEVER let anyone keep your passport. Why not just give them your wallet to keep as well.

I will NEVER give up my passport to stay at a hotel. Does this really happen? If so can someone list the hotels this occurs at. No one is stealing my identity just because I need a place to bang a girl. I trust sites like Agoda would pay you back if any hotel try to pull something like this.
