I don't know where to begin
Wasted,
With all due respect, and I would be the first to say that you are entitled to your opinion, but......flippant sound bites do not a debate make. If you want to discuss this I would be glad to. I just don't think that those sorts of comments should be left undiscussed, like a fart in church.
Thanks for history data Carlos

USB: You are forgetting that the USA invaded Mexico in 1916 after Pancho Villa raided Columbus, New Mexico. This force was commanded by General Pershing and a young officer by the name of George Patton was one of his staff.
Carlos, your history lesson very insightful.Been traveling around Mexico via bus,I am 62,presently in Matehuala, considering our history with Mexico folks in general very cordial.Stay in cheap hotels with local folks, enjoyable.Sent you a pm,see you soon.Big John 1
Patton was a real hard ass...
OH MY GOD!!! If Patton was there, you are lucky he did not kick your asses into the Pacific, and finish the job that was started in Mexico City. We are all fortunate. I could not stand seeing Monterrey under US control! Bannish the thought!!!
If you want, I can start to research that information about Pershing and Patton, and post huge volumes of information here, taking up all the available bandwidth with future history lessons. Just say the word amigo.
By the way, Carlos, "the" Wet Wipes are now within my sphere of control, and they will be accompanying me to Monterrey for your hygenic/antibacterial pleasure.

History gives me a headache
USB: I never said I don't like history. What gets me angry are 2 things: The winner writes the history & the fact that there are 3 phases of history:
phase 1- as history is being made, truth is altered
phase 2 -as you read about it later, you discover the alteration
phase 3- as you read about from the other side, it was all lies.
The USA is 200 years old. I would not call that history. But 4000 years of history is in fact 'history'
I don't want to waste too many key strokes on this subject. I refuse to watch the news (we report, you decide, my a$$) and politics still makes me laugh. How could an idiot run a super country when he can not put 2 words together? And if he does, he might misunderestimate.

You don't like history??? Holidays???
I find Mexican history fasinating...Here is a little more history:
I was recently surprised to learn that the US actually conquered the capital city of Mexico during the Mexican/American War, and that a US flag was actually hoisted and flew on the capital building in Mexico City for quite some time. Here are some more interesting facts that came about as a result of the Mexican American war...
The United States acquired the northern half of Mexico. This area later became the U.S. states of California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah, establishing a border from sea to shining sea. Had the US not acquired that land, we would have land borders with the State of Mexico that would encompas those States. It was thought at the time that borders at the Oceans would better serve to secure the boundries of the United States, and that to maintain a land border of that magnitude would make border security almost an impossibility were we not to acquire those eventual States.
The US politicians were self serving for the sake of their country, at the expense of Mexico. The Americans were patriotically correct with respect to border security, and I believe that they held the best interests of the US at heart. It doesn't make it morally right, but logistically, they were correct. The defeat of Mexico was the first time an enemy force occupied the capitol of the nation. The French would also occupy Mexico City in the 1860's.
Fact is, after the Mexican/American War, the American politicians were dying to get out of Mexico and normalize relations with the people of Mexico because the US Civil War was starting to heat up about the time the American Army took control of Mexico City. The US politicians did not need the distraction of having to calm and assemilate the people of Mexico into the Union, so they pulled out in order to direct their attentions to the Civil War effort. The US governor of Mexico City, was trying to hold onto the entire country of Mexico, and had been ordered by the President of the United States, several times, to pull out. But, it took months for that to actually occur because the US governor of Mexico, based in Mexico city, was pushing for US occupation of Mexico, and for eventually making Mexico a part of the Union. Eventually, the President of the United States had to make some pretty serious threats to get them all to pull out. I guess the American politicians in Mexico City had delusions of governing a huge expanse of newly conquered land, and they didn't want to give up their power base. The President of the United States finally made enough threats that they eventually pulled out and turned the country back over to the Mexican people.
Thank GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine if we had maintained an occupation in Mexico, and turned it into a US possession, and eventually into several more United States.
Consider the implications. Mexican Strip Clubs would be just like US Strip Clubs, no bar girls sitting on your lap, no privados, no salidas, no touching, no kissy face, no feely, no nothing...We would have to travel all the way to Costa Rica for God's sake. Oh, the humanity of it all would be simply too much to endure!!! Thank GOD, Thank GOD, Thank GOD!!! We would have fucked everything UP!!! But, of course, we would have also had Cancun, Alcapulco, Puerta Vallarta, Vera Cruz, Mazatlan, etc...I would trade them all to be governor of Monterrey.
With respect to holidays...
Granted, most commemorative holidays are not particularly celebrated with sincerity. For example, how many of us sit home on Dr. Martin Luther King Day to contemplate his "contributions"? But, IMHO, while many religious holidays are celebrated with insincerity by the faithless, with over commercialization etc...there are still many religious holidays that are seriously celebrated by the religious faithful. With respect to the date during which Christmas is celebrated, that is merely due to a lack of historical data being available to actually, with certain accurancy, discern the actual date of the birth of Christ. Besides, the celebration of Christmas day on December 25th was merely an import from our European Ancestors, a date established long before the US was born.
On the other hand, New Years Eve, is another example of a holiday whose primary benefit is derived to the distillers of the World, a day of very little serious contemplation or consequence. But, I belive there is a significant difference between some of the religious holidays and the secular holidays with respect to their overall validity as legitimate holidays.
The board is otherwise dead...
The problem is, we need more guys to participate by posting questions, comments, and/or reports.
There is nothing to keep anyone from posting their reports, questions, comments, regardless of the banter that proliferates between a few of us. Besides, if there was more participation from guys choosing to visit Monterrey, there would be less banter to fill the board. Those of us that participate in the banter would be busy replying with opinions and commentary stemming from those questions and comments.
Frankly, with the current level of participation on the Monterrey board, if it were not for the banter, I suspect the board would probably die completely. I know I would probably lose interest in checking the board for lack of postings. At least with the banter, the board is still alive, and the newbies know who they can go to.
I speculate that without the banter, there would be nothing to check for months on end.
Our hotel recommendations...
i don't really advocate that the hotels we stay in are necessarily a great deal, nor do they offer the level of comfortable accomodation that i prefer when i am traveling in the us, but they are girl friendly. that is a hugely important issue for those of us that go on salida with the girls.
there simply aren't that many downtown hotels that will permit girls in their establishments to begin with, and even less that permit those activities while also providing accomodations for the business traveler.
many of the visitors to monterrey don't see this importance because most posters seem to visit the massage parlors, or partake in only in-club activities. but, for those of us that enjoy salidas, the logistical importance of finding an acceptable, relatively reasonably priced hotel that can also accomodate our business needs, can not be emphasized enough.
the pda (plaza del arco) is at least tied for the #1 position with respect to things like being in close proximity to the clubs, high speed internet, and being girl friendly, all at the same time. it even has a side entrance where you can avoid the walk of shame to some extent.
plaza del arco is cheap when you compare most hotels in a major city like monterrey. many good hotels will cost well over $100 a night. pda costs around $57-$58 a night if you walk in off the street. if you frequent pda as a business traveler, you can get a reduced rate, and also if you negotiate with them, and are planning to spend a week in monterrey. they will come off the price for an extended stay of more than about 4 days, and especially if they know you are a repeat customer, returning frequently to monterrey.
been staying at the pda for almost 2 years now. i watched the room rates go up almost every single time i check in. however, i still pay the original price from 2 years ago and i somethime get free nights.. because i hehave - haha. not.
nahh. the manager and i have become friends. i get special vip treatment from the entire staff. the bell boy knocks on my door at 8 am every morning with a freshlyh squeezed orange juice and a newspaper. the maids can't wait to clean my room and leave me 5 extra towles and extra bottles of water. i have the same room everytime. i sometimes have 3 girls in the room and no one says anything although it is $70 more for each extra person. i pay nothing. the only thigs is ... i realy behave and tell the girls to keep their voice down. i try to get the grils through the back door so as to show some respect to the ladies behind the front desk and i always treat everyone with respect as well. i tip alot too but it pays off well.
i have many demands from almost every person working at the hotel but i make sure everyone is rewarded for the special attention.
i stayed at the safi once. i is a great hotel, top class, but absolutly no girls. i had to keep 2 hotels at the same time, safi for work and pda for fun.
