I am currently in floripa enjoying the beaches. Thinking about the next move, sounds like Curitiba can be a suitable option for mongering but as someone is saying in the forum, info here looks very outdated.

After a handful of years I finally returned to visit Curitiba. Though it's far more sedate than Rio & Sampa, it like this city and it's people. My only true error was deciding to visit during Carnaval because I learned rather quickly that during the four main days of Carnaval celebration practically all of the naughty-nightlife venues would be closed. Que pena! Thankfully I arrived a couple of days ahead of the Carnaval so I could at least check out a few places. Also, since this insn't my first visit I already had knowledge of some venues.

I've heard that this is a high-end prive with nice gals, but unfortunately didn't get the chance to visit before things shut down for Carnaval celebrations. A high-end strip joint. I arrived there around 11Pm last night and the place was rather mellow. Dames I talked to said that 1) it was early & 2) it was going to be a slow night because many people (clients + garotas) were on vacation for Carnaval. 1. Even though I'm sort of disappointed that practically all the naughty venues are closed during Carnaval, the truth is that it's the same throughout the country. So I'll just go with the flow and maybe even take the time to visit some places along the coast for tourism / cultural purposes.

2. Sure folks in Curitiba recognize Carnaval, but most people here that I've talked to don't really care for it. A lot of people here are light-skinned, natural blondes and of Italian, German even Polish descent. Many of them like to think of themselves as Europeans as opposed to Brazilian. I can't say that's necessarily a bad thing but just the way it is. I personally feel that Carnaval is nothing more than a glorified parade, and I hate parades.

3. How do they celebrate Carnaval? From what I've seen thus far. Rather sedately. Instead of getting blind with drink and dancing around half naked they prefer to go shopping, travel to Florianopolis or Ilha do Mel for sand & sun, or simply relax and socialize with family / friends. There is one quirk of Carnaval here that a large group of people like to dress up as zombies and walk as a group to the center of downtown. WTF? A dame told me this a couple of days ago and I thought she was loco. But sure enough there was an article about it in the local newpaper today.

4. Keep in mind that most massage places, casas, prives close by 10PM at night. Many of them close earlier at around 7PM or 8PM (especially on Saturdays). The only places I know of that are open after 10PM are the strip clubs & it's best to wait until around midnight before going to those places. Pretty much all the sex venues are closed on Sundays.

5. I worked out at a gym here in Curitiba for two days before it also closed down for the 4 days of Carnaval. I was in Curitiba for a few days and tried to do some mongering. The scene is pretty decent here if you know where to look. My first night, I wanted to avoid the night clubs but there happened to be one that was a block from my hotel. It was called Las Vegas Night Club. Man, that place was the pits. I got there at 11:30 pm and paid R$20 which goes towards two drinks. I stayed only half an hour, but there were literally 3 girls in the whole place and 4 customers. I thought Sinal Verde had pretty decent looking lineup but they were always busy. I went there several times in the early afternoon and that was my experience.
