Rio de Janeiro Reports

I'm planning my next trip to Rio. It took forever to get my visa but now this will be trip 5- I think. As usual I'm researching the crap out of it I like to hit the ground running. I hope to stay in Copa but not yet confirmed. I hope to stay 3 weeks.

Reading comments from members from this and other ISG sites, sometimes there reports are depressing. How many times have you read a report that says this place has lost it. Years ago the P4P here was at its peak but now it sux. Did you ever wonder if ten years from now, comments would be WOW the last ten years have been great but now P4P sux. In 1965 while sailing through the China sea my ship made a 10 day stop and anchored out in the Hong Kong harbor. If you have been there then when I say. Go to the rooftops -you get a little tingle but when I mention the nobbie broads at the pier, well now you have a little smile on your face. There are only trashes in prives. There are few decent looking women in the prives but they stay in business for a short time. Hotrod's comment about slow visa reminded me to mention: they are apparently offering e-visa now as of Jan 25th. Just google "Brazil evisa". It is however apparently inferior to the real visa in that you can only stay for 90 days / year and it only lasts for 2 years. Fee is $40 I believe.

There really are a lot of violence going on in Rio. Just the last week:
* Lots of shooting between PM/bandidos in Zona Sul favelas: Rocinha, Tabajaras, Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira.
* Even worse in Jacarézinho, where the bandits kidnapped and killed a delegado. Police is going inside the favela with big force.
* Shootings on Linha Amarela.
* Drugwars in Angra dos Reis and Cabo Frio.

Not to mention Fortaleza where bandits entered a forró-club and shot and killed 18 people, many of them were girls. Some days after there were a fight in a jail in Fortaleza, 10 people were killed.

So what about people wanting to stay six months running or per year? Stupid Brazilian administration, I still have to travel with an European passport. Three months is not enough for certain people. Only valid for 2 years.

Street robberies -forced entry etc even if we don't live in Rio it is much more violent now so take more caution.
