I have a friend who is also fluent in Spanish and he doesn't seem to have any problems. Its always better to know at least a little of the local language, but you should be ok. Remember not all Brazilians will understand Spanish.

SOme locals will understand what you are saying in Spanish, but Spanish will not help you understand them at all.
Your friend who has been studying Porto will get lots of chances to use it.

Sounds like he is trying to capitalize on the recent oglobo articles about the replacement artist renditions for Help to drum up some needed business, good for him.

I doubt he knows anything more than anybody else, for the past 3 years every time I have been in Help I thought it might be my last, but we still get extensions. Let’s hope this goes on forever.

what do you think bro's?[/quote]spanish and portuguese are completely different. things look the same but are pronounced very very differently. get a copy of pimsleur brazilian portuguese. since you are fluent in spanish once you get a grasp of the pronounciation (rio = he-yo, help = hel-[url=http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord134][CodeWord134][/url], etc...) you will do alright but they are two different languages. way easier for you then a corn fed unilingual gringo like me. what to expect? you will have a blast. the girls, the sun, the food, the beach, the fun loving laid back people. compared to the places you mentioned brasil is the bomb.

Their report states Help Ownership is contesting the appraisal of $R13 million. A decision is expected in 2 months. If everything goes against Help, construction of the Museum is expected to start Feb 2010 and last 2.5yrs!!!
Other reports state the Museum will have a piano bar and a Dance Floor. It be hilarious if the GDP ply their trade there. What's Cabral and the state going to do then??

Now that it is decided, no much matter if in 1 or 4 months, it has really sense to discuss it, so I ask to these ones who live in Rio and know the city better, where we should expect GDP will move when Help will be only a memory ?

Help for me was not a very good place but the only one where to go after midnight to meet with other mongers, take a drink, relax and to watch to the pros at work, so the answer "after Help where" is not that easy for girls, considering it should be a disco in copa or at least in ipanema as in these two places you have the 99% of turists.

I am afraid the mongering late at night in Rio will change totally, that it will never be as before and IMHO I never liked the bars-boite in Prado Junior and never took a SW and not plan to do it.

Spent a few days in rio on business last week. Stayed in the sheraton in barra , great hotel, highly recommended. Only time for mongering was my last night, turned left outside the hotel and 20 minutes walk later was at the cAFE 400. Fantastic women, too many to choose from. I am sure there are entrepreneurs ready to exploit the opening. Wish I had the money to invest. There is one place abandoned on the beach, it`s quite large inside and tere is a second floor. It used to be called the beer place or something in the old days it was called Bolero
