Prices go up for turists more than for colombians.
Normal colombian boy goes with waiters and other low and poor (mantecas) colombian campesinas for not more than some beers and a travel to the beach or to disco during nite.He never pays 100 dol. for a nite with girls, also cause 100 dol.for him are a week of work. While if u speack about the colombian millionars they use big money but to go with girls of tv and high sohowgirls not of course to go with the turist's treet and beach hookers.
So if they prices of disco, and beach hookers are going up is especially for tourists form europe and usa that become mad for pussy givin'them a lot of money.
Chao.
Cream on Top, I'm glad to see that you've mellowed since your days on gringos.com (matrimonial site, not an ISG competitor) and are no longer blaming the gringo alone for all the world's problems. Your points,
a) Did you read what I wrote? I have no argument that there are extranjeros in CARTAGENA paying 5-6 times the going rate in other venues. There are definitely Colombians paying as much or more than tourists in Colombia, and those 9's and 10's on the arms of the Colombianos are not necessarily sponsored women. Some are prepagos or from places like Las Profesionales. Much of this goes on in private though -- the extranjero is more likely to be seen in public (like a restaurant) with a hooker than the typical Colombian monger. Your assumption that I've never ventured out of Cartagena is wrong. I've been to Bogota and Medellin on multiple occasions and once to Barranquilla, admittedly usually not just to monger, but primarily for business and as a conventional tourist. Don't worry, I don't have plans right now to go to Cali, so you don't have to worry about one more ASSHOLE in your favorite city.
B.) You do have a point here. You go to Mexico and "gringo" means estadounidense; they don't differentiate as much in Colombia.
YOU are the one that should take a look at the tourist statistics:
http://www.turismoafondo.com/comunidad/news.asp?id=319
In the first part of 2007, 17% of tourists to Colombia came from the European Union and 19% from the U.S. Forty-two percent were from South America. I haven't spent as much time mongering in Cartagena as I used to, but when I first started going there were more Italians than estadounidenses. Don't know if that's still the case -- I've been into LDV three times in the last two years. I suspect what you say about Tijuana, Mexico is wrong, but I've never been there. I can say for a fact that you'll spend a lot more for poontang in Mexico City for top flight hookers, $250/hour, than what you'll pay in the border towns close to Texas. Massage parlors in Juarez on the border charge $40 for a session, versus $100 in Guadalajara in the interior. The reason? Just like most places in Colombia (but not Cartagena), IT'S THE LOCALS THAT ARE DRIVING THE PRICE OF PUSSY, not the gringos.
Nelson the cab driver, woman finder, begger, etc.
I ran across a very nice cab driver who speaks good english. His name is Nelson, and his phone is 310-503-4944. ... I would highly recommend him as a driver.
If this is the same Nelson, and I believe it is, he works out of an agency, Colombian Women . com or something like that.
Someone recommended Nelson to put an ad in a newspaper and interviewed the girls that showed up. His wife answered the ad calls and scheduled the girls for their interviews on a Saturday from 9 to 5. Cost was $500. I paid him up front, as he was recommended by a friend who had been satisfied.
He had a conceited girl with big fake knockers ride with him to meet me at the airport. Suggested I take the girl and forget about the interviews the next day.
The next day he showed me a camera that my buddy supposedly bought him as a gift. Suggested I show my appreciation too and buy him a gift.
Several of the girls were regulars from a Cali agency, or average looking friends of his wife. Only a couple were hotties and they were not too motivated... had kids, good job in Cali, etc. He made an effort to get the phone numbers of the hotties for himself, though he promised me he was faithful to his wife?
Completed the interviews but did not find any non-pros worth investing my time or money beyond the $500. BTW $500 is alot of money in Colombia, the average Colombian earns $200 a month, more or less.
Maybe some of you other gentlemen have had the same experience with Nelson?
Well it seems my WORST nightmares have come true!
FARC, is making a strong comeback and targeting CALI as their stronghold and base of operations. and Just as I thought things might be improving slightly there. Just spoke to the novia, she is getting a little shaken up about Cali and its turn for the worse and told me its all over (RCN AND CARACOL).
Region's governor says FARC rebels are initial suspects in Cali car bombing
One person killed and 34 injured when bomb goes off in front of police barracks
At least 40 stores and houses damaged in blast in Colombia's third-largest city
Adjust font size:
BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) -- A powerful car bomb exploded Monday in front of police barracks in the southwest city of Cali, Colombia, killing one person and injuring 34, the region's governor said.
Gov. Angelino Garzon told Caracol radio that "the first theory we're going with is that it's the work of the FARC," referring to the country's largest leftist rebel group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.
"Although we cannot rule out other illegal groups, whether it's drug traffickers, paramilitaries or common criminals."
The explosion killed a taxi driver who was passing the car when the bomb was detonated. The blast also injured 19 officers in the barracks, and 15 civilians on the street outside. I will regretebably postpone my monthy trip till things calm down a little, Rather be safe than sorry.
At least 40 stores and houses were damaged.
Cali, Colombia's third largest city about 185 miles (300 kilometers) southwest of the capital of Bogota, is the site of a vicious turf war between leftist rebels, far-right paramilitaries and rival drug traffickers.

instead of "sticking with" something, learn about it
hmmm... if you say so.... but I'll stick with 1) no joda or 2) no me jodes as I've always thought the verb was joder. Maybe I am incorrect :-)
p.s. and itīs "no me jodas"

I would think instead of "sticking with something" you havenīt learned but just assume, itīd be better to learn, no?
people say what SOUNDS like no joda, but thatīs kind of quickening things (Latins sometimes swallow letters and syllables, especially in places like Cuba)
so hereīs your lesson. For starters your option 2 is definitely INCORRECT and the first needs explanation.
the verb is indeed joder (basically meaning "to fuck with"), and itīs not a verb used in polite company.
if you want to use the negative imperative, you have to change the conjugation of the verb into what is also the "subjunctive" conjugation. (ergo, jodes becomes jodas, and jode becomes joda). The imperative tense and the negative imperative is most often though not always used with the "tu" form. However, with a verb like joder, itīs almost impossible that itīd be used with the polite usted form
which leaves you with
no me jodas (from the "tu" version),. You will often not "hear" the "s" because many Spanish speakers will swallow sīs at end of words or merely aspirate them (where you hear a slight hiss instead of a full pronounciation) and sometimes they wonīt say the "me" part. Examples of this are "mi hijo" which is shortened and pronounced "mijo" y mi hija / mija.
now if you were to use the polite form with usted
no me joda - but like I said, highly unlikely itīd be used with the polite usted form.
so - yes your ear does hear "no joda" between the guys in loose/slang conversation (I have heard it in Cuba and Venezuela this way) and if you want to sound like "one of the guys" feel free to use it, though you might start sounding very stupid trying to sound like one of the guys outside that phrase. As I noted, the amount of swallowing, shortening and aspirating depends on the country you are in (Cuba could be the "worst" and Colombia the "best")
the correct form you should learn and know is no me jodas.
sorry, that was a typo and I have corrected it
ítīs no me jodas.
you can say what sounds like no joda if you want to sound like one of the guys. (and YES, it is often said that way) Like I said, the problem then comes how you sound compared to "the guys" afterwards.
it is not and will NEVER/EVER be no me jodes. (because it has to conjugated differently in the negative imperative).... and of course thatīs why it "shouldnīt" be this way either. For your costena gf to say that means she really didnīt learn grammar in school.
I apologize for the fat finger and hopefully my post besides that last line made clear the proper grammatical background. (as did Ezinho)
I happen to believe itīs almost always better to learn the language correctly, rather than trying to sound like the guy on the street (you can get to that once you are very good or master the correct way). If your Spanish is proper you will often get complimented since a lot of the people, especially of the lower classes one might meet may not be well educated and their Spanish will often not be very good/proper.
of course you are free to disagree with the first sentence of the last paragraph
p.s. the costeņos in Colombia speak Spanish that is very similar to the Venezuelan variety, and even use many of the slang terms, so Iīm not the slightest bit surprised they all say (and you hear) no joda. I heard what sounded like no joda in Caracas all the time (but since itīs a slang/street expression, they are swallowing the me and not pronouncing the s at the end of the word)
I will ask some locals in Cali tonight/tomorrow for their explanation of why itīs said as "no joda" (I might learn something as well) but I know the proper grammatical way would be no me jodas
Joder Conjugations & The FARC
Heatluver,
You're not going to leave me all alone in Cali at the tender mercy of The Farc, are you? Will you at least give me your novia's phone number so that she might comfort me in your absence?
Winner & Catire,
I'm only an intermediate level spanish speaker so I consulted my Living Language "Ultimate Spanish" book for reference. Direct quote: "The negative tu command is the second person singular of the present subjunctive; there are no exceptions". Hence the er verb "joder" as a negative tu command would be "jodas", and you would need the indirect object pronoun "me" placed in between the "no" and the verb yielding "no me jodas" or en ingles "don't fuck with me". I even plugged "no me jodas" into the Prompt Online Translator which though imperfect I've found to be the best of the online translators and it came back with "don't fuck me".

So I guess that wearing a t-shirt with "FARC SUCKS" on the front and "No Me Jodas" on the back probably isn't such a good idea during my 3 weeks in Cali, huh? Damn! Seriously though, I checked out the El Pais link about the bombing. It had a video clip of the aftermath. Looked more like a scene from Baghdad. Maybe some of those apartments I've been looking at might get even cheaper and make up for the loss of buying power the weakened dollar is causing.
Happy Mongering to All!
