But that is my whole point-if you come from an alcohol-based society where it is expected that people buy drinks for their friends and company, or stock their fridges with drinks for themselves and their friends, you may feel some social obligation to buy drinks for chicas, and of course that is exactly what the bar owners are counting on and why chica bars are profitable. However it is not at all necessary to buy drinks for chicas if you want to monger-even if many of the chicas are found in bars.
I would think this is an interesting point since people on this board consistently discuss how to reduce expenses on their trips and buying drinks for chicas could be a significant and totally avoidable expense. If people are going to whine about things like taxi fares from the airport and then spend a significant amount of money on alcohol for prostitutes, that is an odd priority.
If I am spending the day with someone, then of course I am buying all their food and drink, but I would rarely buy drinks in bars for new acquaintances, because I am not into that, and don't like the smoke in bars anyway. I rarely drink (alcohol) myself, so I certainly don't feel any obligation to buy drinks for others unless, perhaps, I specifically thought a chica would perform better in bed if some alcohol was administered first. Not buying chicas drinks has had no noticeable detrimental effect on my sex life.
Your point is moot because you are basing it on ifs and mights which don't exist in my example. One, I never felt or said anything about being obligated to buy a chica a drink. Two, the chica didn't ask for a drink. I offered it. And I didn't do it because I was hoping it would lead to anything. And as I said before its already understood by most I'm certain, that buying a chica a drink is not necessary. Giving a chica a 200 peso propina with the idea it will lead to a good performance next encounter, that isn't necessary either but mongers do it. Am I right? So lets not come off self righteous here.
And third! There was no issue made over the expense over a small presidente. So All of these what if issues you are bringing up, have nothing to with what I was focused on. Also, lets not ignore the fact that your statement is not an absolute, that buying a chica a drink in Sosua means one is saying they want to do business. That simply is not true in all cases. You want something to stick because you said it. But I'm sorry it just doesn't hold true for every situation, nor is that statement consistent in practice.
Now as far as you are concerned, what you do with your time and money is your business. Nobody really cares one way the other. And IMO, I think that would be a better approach than simply assigning variables to people that may not even apply. I'm sure I asked this before of you. Why not ask for feedback on how someone thinks or feels instead of suggesting things that may not apply?
Why not ask for feedback on how someone thinks or feels instead of suggesting things that may not apply?
Because you wrote for public consumption a little story about something that went wrong when you bought a chica a drink as an intended friendly gesture and ended up getting beer thrown on you.
This is a public forum and I am perfectly entitled to pick up something you mentioned and expand on it. It doesn't have to be all about you, because anything I write is addressed to a general readership including a large number of people who lurk but never post and who are perhaps weighing the pros and cons of a visit to the DR.
Point remains that one might think it is just good manners to offer a woman an alcoholic drink, but in the DR you really don't have to. I am not really concerned about the specifics of your situation, because you have been to Sosua enough that you should know how to handle situations that get difficult, and indeed you did handle this situation sensibly once it ran out of control. Maybe she was just a psycho anyway, or desperate for money, who knows, but I still think it is better policy to offer a soft drink or juice if you want to give a girl something to suck on.
Very few have pimps in the US sense of the word who drive them out to work and watch them like hawks forcing them to maximise income or control them through a drug habit or violence.
A lot of full-time working girls have husbands or boyfriends who they totally or partially support and most of them do it quite willingly because they are fond of these parasites and have grown up in the Latin culture that this behaviour is normal and expected.
It is very rare for the gringo mongers to knowingly come into contact with these lowlifes. Sometimes they will be the moto drivers with whom the girls arrive and you can spot that by the girls having a conversation with them, exchanging cash or door-keys with them, or giving them a peck on the cheek, but otherwise they won't behave any differently from other motoconchistas.
If you want to almost guarantee avoiding this scum then avoid the hardcore putas and the bars they frequent.
Casa Cayena is an excellent choice and a great base for your trip.
95% of the guys who have problems with chicas, police, bar-owners, etc, are doing something wrong. They have drunk too much (none at all would be best but that is too much to expect from most guys here) , or they attracting attention themselves in one way or another (dress, mouthing off, misplaced attempts at humor, getting into conversations with locals, attracting the attention of hard-core putas, being too generous (such as buying rounds for strangers) , being too tight (such as quibbling over 20 pesos change when you should just walk away and don't go back to that bar) , going back with girls to their place (potentially very dangerous) , etc.
From your posts you seem a cautious, even timid, person but also an experienced and sensible one. I don't think you will feel the necessity to do any of the above things to have a great time. Hang with some decent ex-pats or veteran visitors on your first two days until you know your way around. No need to stay with them after if they have outlived their usefulness and you want to go it alone.
You will have a great time in Sosua, but if you are really into dancing you may have a better one in Puerto Plata. (I mean Latin dancing, of course, bachata, merengue and salsa).
But if you drink too much, or (like me) act stupid after very little alcohol, then all bets are off.
You can shade the odds in your favor by going with haitianas, but if you are not attracted to black girls that advice won't help much.
The reason haitianas tend to be less trouble is they are mostly illegal immigrants and don't want to attract attention to themselves. Dominican police and other Dominicans will usually support their own countrymen / women right or wrong, but they won't favor haitianas over gringos.
Another reason some of us favor haitianas is that they are more intelligent on average. Most dominican putas are on the game because they are too stupid to get a decent job, but such is the disastrous economic situation in Haiti that quite intelligent and educated girls have no other choice.
This is a five-star post and should be memorized by all newbies.
In a place like Sosua buying a chica an alcoholic drink means that you want to do business, and is not necessary at all. Even a single beer can have some effect in changing behaviour and reducing inhibitions, as you saw. But my question to you is, you didn't think the message you were trying to get across could stand on its own merits unless you quoted a portion of my post? Even if your comments are for others in this forum, it still can come off as being condescending and self righteous. Especially if those ifs you brought up still doesn't apply to that individual.
You are well within your rights to post as you please. Just as I am in expanding on the flaws in your POV. Like your generalized conclusion that buying a chica a drink in Sosua means someone wants to do business. I know you enjoy expanding on others comments, but when you make those types of statements my challenge to your POV is not all about you.
Likewise much of what I respond to is for a general readership including a large number of people who lurk but never post and who are perhaps weighing the pros and cons of certain debateable statements made by certain individuals.

Thanks again, Charles. You are a big help, and I appreciate your suggestions / advice a lot.
A couple of questions, please:
1. What are some of ways to spot a Haitian without talking to them (I. E. To just tell them apart, besides skin color, although I guess not 100% are distinctly different from the Dominicans. Of course, they speak Haitian / French version)
2. How much is a Taxista (the publically licensed ones, as opposed to the private driver) from say Playa Dorada to Sosua vs. Cabarete (I like Tex Mex)
3. How much is a Taxista from Cabarete to Sosua?
FYI, I rarely get drunk, and try to stay low key and observe carefully.
Also, FYI, my guess is that if you saw me, you may think I could be Southern Italian, maybe Brazilian, maybe Colombian etc. Meaning I am not white. But little mixed. Was married for over 20 years to a Texan! Most Latinos cannot believe that I don't speak Spanish. FWIW, One AA flight told me, in front of a large group of people on board (going to Brazil) , that she could not believe that I did not speak Spanish or Portuguese, and that she was sure I did, and that I was probably ashamed to admit it!
I consider myself an internationalist and genuinely in the core of my heart, love peoples of different cultures, love to observe and study them. Lived out of a suitcase, traveling the globe for work for 20 plus years, more 50% of business days, each of those years! But I am NOT very experienced like many of you on these boards in the chica area. And, because of my looks, if I don't open my mouth, I would blend right in, visually speaking! Both a plus and a minus!
Thanks

Immigration Officer
Last trip to Sosua, on my return (after a broken string of 6 or so trips to the Philippines) the Immigration Officer said to me "what's the matter (my name) are you getting tired of the Philippines?" I laughed and said NEVER. Like MacArthur I will return but the DR is good for a quick trip. He laughed, winked his eye, stamped my Passport and said welcome back. No harm no foul. I guess you have to read the person to see if there is malicious intent. This guy wished he was me. LOL.

October 15 report
Its morning, Oct 16. Get up and went to the office (Rockys ). Shared my experience with a couple of buddies during breakfast. Found out I wasnt the only one that had an interesting night. 2 dudes staying at Sosua Suites. The 1st one is 30 ish. He was out on the prowl around 3 ish in the morning. Meets a chica, takes her back to his spot. Sometime during or after they were finished he discovers some blood on his condom. He talks to her about it, and she claims that she is pregnant, but she needs the money. I'm fuzzy on exact time frame details but I believe he told me later she said she was experiencing some sort of pain while in his company / hotel.
At some point he paid her what they agreed, and even gave her a few pesos more. She left. Again fuzzy on time details, but she comes back, and this time with another chica for backup. She starts complaining to him that she is experiencing some severe pain and / or discomfort, and now she wants him to give her more money so she can go to the hospital or somewhere to take care of it.
Oh and FYI, he said if she was pregnant, she wasnt showing in the least. My guess was, she was on her period, or coming on or going off, and she just used that to claim she was pregnant to draw more sympathy and pesos. The end result? He called her bluff and gave her no money. But he didn't blast her, he just did the no tengo routine until they both felt they werent going to get anything out of him. Of course after that experience, you know homey wasnt sure if she was done. After all, she was bold enough to come back to extort pesos from him, she's may be bold enough to come at him another way.
So I guess he wasnt sure she was really done, or coming back later with other resources, like law enforcement. Fortunately nothing else happened that night / morning.
The 2nd dudes situation is with a late 40 ish dude with only 2 trips under his belt. His situation is comprised of a series of missteps or ill-advised moves concerning a certain chica he made plans to hook up with. It started off with her being 3 hours late for their hookup, but he says it wasnt a major issue because he was pre-occupied while he was waiting.
IMO a chica 3 hours late and no valid excuse is not something to overlook. IMO, its a red flag indicating a lack of respect for someone elses time. If not checked, it could lead to more of the same, or other disrespectful behavior. He may very well not intend to repeat with a particular chica, but if a dude is consistently allowing their time to be devalued by these chicas, they may very well be sending the wrong message, and giving chicas more incentive to see what else they can get away with. Especially when they encounter one of those nice , caring type of guys. Which he is.
Anyway, they get to his spot around 3 in the afternoon. According to him, she's not saying much and seems bored or disinterested in being there. At some point he allows her to get on his Ipad, and that keeps her amused and entertained for a while. And yes he offered her food and beverages while together.
Nightfall comes, and he still hasnt fucked this chick. Fuzzy on time frames, but he said at some point he wanted to discuss what she expected for her time. She told him then, she doesn't like to talk about that or negotiate. She aint like those other women in the street, blah blah blah. That causes him to back off I suppose until he brings it up again. I guess it's getting kinda late, and he is ready to get busy.
He finally convinces her to give him a figure. She says 3000 pesos. She meant short time, like 2 hours, not all night. The problem though, she has already been with him since at least 3 in the afternoon, and now it's evening. She has already been with this cat for several hours. He countered her price. Not sure, but I think they agreed on another price? Or he paid her the 3000 since she was with him half the day???
He starts off giving her oral, and she comes. He lays back on the bed hoping his turn is next. Chick lays back on the bed too. He's thinking, and finally got around to asking."Well arent you going to return the favor and suck my dick?" She said, I don't do that. Now it's really starting to sink in that he made a huge mistake with this individual. Starting with tolerating her being late. Okay so eventually they get to having sex. But by then he's so disgusted with how this whole charade played out, he couldn't even enjoy the sex. I think he said he didn't bust. So me and a couple of other cats went over his scenario to discuss the many red flags waving in his face and the missteps he took dealing with that chica, and some perspective for future reference.

My experience is that you have to treat them like dogs. I love dogs to death, but you must establish complete dominance before you give them any liberties, always give clear and unambiguous signals, and make sure that they are 100% loyal to you before you give them any liberties, otherwise they will try to take the lead, [CodeWord140] on the furniture, etc. You do not give a dog your iPad to play with, or it will be Skyping other dogs and spreading rebellion.
