The Democratic candidates went through primary elections that mimic the electoral college. There was a free, Democratic election in each state. It's a great exercise in American Democracy! The people pick the nominees. I guess that's why they call you guys Democrats. The person who emerges from that process should have popular support from up to half of the country.
It's not like some other countries where you have a party gerontocracy or insiders who get together and decide who will be the next nominee. Or someplace like Mexico where the sitting president decides who will be the next president. This is America!
