USFK announced today that the drinking age will be raised to 21 in Korea. Some things defy logic, the powers to be are always bitching that "we are guests in Korea and must follow the local law and we will follow the local law." OK USFK, if the law in Korea is 20 with regards to drinking alcohol, what gives you the right to change the law? I thought USFK is to follow the country's law?

Its quite funny when people engaged in 'illegal' activities are crying about the crackdown. Just like the pathetic crackdown on traffic violations a few months ago, this crackdown will make no difference in the long run. The locals regard for the law is zero..thats why the place is run like a third world country half the time.

I have tried to find the Sports massage behind the Ritz today, but could not find it. They even take credit cards for 170000W.

Management prefers Korean speaking customers not because they're worried about STD's, but because it can get a bit confusing with the ushers' instructions, food orders, massage instructions, and telephone calls from the front desk. Even the bath service can get a little complicated. If you're not Korean, they ask that you come with a Korean friend so he can explain. I think if you can speak Korean, they'll let you in, even if you're not Korean.

No one probably really knows what long term effect the crackdown will have, but the short term is definitely hurting businesses on both sides. I have lived in Korea for 3 months during 2003. This is no Thailand or Philippines, although it might have been 20 years ago when the country was still fairly poor.
