After lauding the casa I went a few weeks ago with a mate quite late and it was terrible, but there were all viet girls there. Lots of them but not our cup of tea. Golden boss is probably better.

The 5th floor nightclub at the place is reputed to have lots of beautiful viets but this is niek mien territory-hardup barangs fuck off.

Getting more dangerous here, first barang shot for his moto the other night-shot twice after he handed it over.

For me, I got there slightly after that, 2001. It was pretty good then. Though even in those days, some nights I'd go there and hang out for a few hours and never spot anything that seemed worth going for. And then leave, head elsewhere. Then some nights, would have better luck. I'd say when I was there in 2007, it was pretty much about the same in terms of quality as what I remember back in 2001. For me at Martini, even on good nights it meant I'd probablly have to hang out there awhile and hope something good showed up eventually. Sometimes it did, sometimes not. Sometimes I'd settle for something acceptable.

The hottest girl I ever saw in that place was Vietnamese. She was so hot one guy after another approached her (including me) but she wasn't interested, just kept dancing with her girlfriends. She looked like a fashion model, clearly stood out from the crowd there. Of the ones I took, the cutest ones that I still can remember were actually Cambodian girls. I sure took some VN there but just don't remember any of them now. One of the hottest I ever grabbed was an accident -- I met one girl I liked, tall skinny girl, and she talked me into taking her friend along with us. When I got in the taxi with them, took a closer look at her friend and was blown away. Gorgeous. Way hotter than the one I asked back. [both these girls were Cambodian, by the way] Unfortunately things didn't go great up in the room, the cute one ended up leaving earlier, got pissy about something and just couldnt' get past it. The skinny one never wanted to leave -- was there til next afternoon. Oh well. The threesome in this case was disappointing -- they wouldn't get in bed together. One or the other would wait in the toilet.

My last time in PP, I actualy visited St 63, went into one place and asked about taking a girl. This was evening, the place pretty busy. The mamasan told me the deal: pay $15 upfront. Knowing the routine in these places and how they're so out to screw over foreigners, this seemed completely out of the question -- it would be me paying that money and then probably not getting anything out of it other than fighting for my pants upstairs. Surely the girl's performance would be terrible, if there'd be any at all. The lady was not open to any negotiation. Half now, half after? No. (as if the foreigners were some kind of risk of leaving without paying-- please). So of course I skipped that one. Yeah I'd say these places are totally history.

Are you talking about the disco being terrible or the karaoke upstairs, through the hotel? If the karaoke, if you got there very late, it'd be the leftovers you would be seeing, right?

Do you mean 5th floor nightclub at Golden Boss? Where's that? And what is 'niek mien'?

I think Golden Boss is a disco dancing. Only have one floor!

OK-The Place is a new multi story high class expensive gym with a fake starbucks,a nice bar on the roof and apparently a very flash nightblub with viet girls.

It is on sihanouk boulevard just west of st 51 rue pasteur.

The place is full of niek mien meaning literally people have.

They are the obscenely rich,spoilt cunts who steal the aid money and the land from the poor people.

They generally drive black lexie and they and their bodyguards have lots of guns and are not afraid to use them.

The golden boss is a ground floor disco on the north end of the riverside,near wat phnom and before the container port.

We went to the casa about midnight,not late at all and it was fucked.

Forgot to mention i was told about a show at disco one,an expensive crappy disco on st 174 corner of st 61 which sums up all that is obscene about cambodia.

Pre pubescent girls in bikinis all heavily made up dancing suggestively for a crowd of young spolit rich niek mien cunts who could see no problem with this.

Mien means wealthy as well as have. The term nay-uk mien means 'the rich'.

Alles klar. Now I realize The Place is the NAME of the place. I wasn't catching that. It's a GYM? Weird.

Now with this description, I know exactly where Golden Boss is -- I have gone past there, considered going in.

I wonder what the excuse was for the Disco 1 show.

btw, the peak time I noticed at Casa karaoke was around 8.30 to 9pm because all the girls had just shown up for their shifts and the groups hadn't arrived yet to pick the best ones. I walked into that room you see immediately at the top of the stairs and it was packed with girls, maybe as many as 100. But that was awhile back, not sure if if it's still the same. So basically, I'd consider midnight late, just based on what I saw. I'd expect the best to be grabbed by then. (and I could be wrong -- you're the one who lives there, I'm the tourist, so you probably have more up to date/thorough experience than me)

I'm in PP right now, maybe my 20th visit since 1998. No doubt, the girl scene has steadily declined since then. No cute Viets any more, only old timers. Martini (usually a reliable option) has been dead all week. Sharky has been crap for years. Hostess bars full of sad, unattractive women who desperately mob you when you come in; even if there is the odd cutie it will be difficult to get her near you, and then you will find she is the one who doesn't go. Le Cyrcee full of dross and now asking for $25! Shanghai has several young cuties, none of whom will go. Walkabout full of skanks as ever. Street 63 brothels : hang on to your wallet, if you can be bothered to look there.I've been here 4 nights now and come up dry. Don't really know where else to look. Of course, it's all a matter of taste, but if you want 18-20 year old cuties, don't come here!

I don’t know what to make of this. What a negative report. Is it objectively accurate or subjectively over stated? In my own experiences, I have been to some places (like Costa Rica) that were so great when I first travelled there 20 years ago that it really depresses me to go back now. Imagine being in Bangkok in the 70’s or Phuket before the hotels. This is the way of the modern world. Remember that old Police song “When the world is running down, you make the best of what’s still around.” My solution is to keep searching for new destinations farther and farther off the grid.

So I was not in Phnom Penh in ’98, or ’02, or ’05, so I can’t comment on what is was like back then. It must have been amazing. But I was in PP last March ’09 and I thought the scene was pretty good. I met some very attractive young Khmer girls in the hostess bars who showed a great time (check my posts). Can things have changed so drastically in 4 months? I do not know. All I know is that I had a great 4 nights back in March and I am planning to spend 12 nights when I return. If it’s no good, I will pay up, get on a plane, and go to Pattaya or AC.

It just takes a bit of exploring. The complaints come from people who keep going back to the same tired old places -- Sharkey's, Walkabout etc.

I had some excellent fun in PP 2001 till 2004 and I also had the feeling it's getting downwards.
Since then I've never been back to PP.

Is the hostess bar scene still mostly confined to that smallish area up around St 104 these days?

That's a bummer that things have gone in that direction, because Im' in VN now where the main scene for foreigners is also hostess bars, and so it was nice to have a change of scenery in PP with the diff types of venues they had there where the most girls were available, such as Martini and others. Hostess bars get a bit boring if that's all you have. Also, total numbers smaller in each of those than in a place like Martini (before), so it means you have to go check out many more places to be able to view the same number of girls. Tedious. I much prefer going to just one place that has lots more girls all together at once.

The Blue Lagoon was closed down, about a week ago, for having nude dancing.

It is a bit worrying to read these reports about PP. I visited last time about 4 months back and then the place already was dead. But on my budget Phnom Penh is still a nice change for a couple of days/nights so i'm going back in 3 weeks to stay for 2 nights.

Why are all the viets gone? Anybody know the reason?

I'm really no big friend of the hostess bars but i guess i have to check them out a little better than i did on previous trips, even if i always managed to find a freelancer that satisfied me. I think that people who fail to find a lady for the night drink too little. Already after 10 beer most ladies start to look appealing to me.
