The decision has nothing to do with the pussy. It is has been illegal forever. Slowly it is being decrimalized in the US. Hell prostitution is illegal in 49 states but is not slowing down. If it was illegal in DR would stop if the enforcement was lax?

Read Gogo's post again: 5K USD to get his cousin out of a Dominican jail and 10K USD to have the case go away.

Compare that to paying only a $100 fine and no jail time in a place like California and tell me again where you'd rather take your chances.

He admits that the hotels are full or nearly full, so evidently the local powers in Sosua are doing something right, and perhaps he could have said more about why the hotels are full.

He also mentioned, I think I have this right, that he would like to see more prostitutes at the beach and less offers of massage.

Of course the enclosure of the bars will not be good news for smokers, and probably not for drinkers, so point taken.

There is little doubt that the government of the DR does not want the name of the country to be synonymous with sex tourism.

To the extent that Sosua is promoted on the Internet as a sex tourism destination, there is a perception of a commercial sex industry located in Sosua. The law on men paying women over the age of 18 for sex may not change, but it it is the laws around the fringes that have a lot of impact on the size of the market.

One could also compare to the UK, or many other countries, where it is not illegal to pay for sex with someone over 18, but there are many other laws that put restrictions in place to dampen the demand for prostitution. No one perceives London as a primarily sex tourism destination, that is for sure.

Hotel Europa is a great go to place. $40 a night. Wifi, safe, very clean pool, jacuzzi, flat stream TV, bar, ac, kitchenette, refrigerator, guess computer, free morning coffee, hotwater, and right on the strip. This is my third time here. I'm in room 123 which is a double room $75. It has a very nice patio attached to it. 2 weeks ago I came here and after one was close. It is now open.

Effectively it has zero impact on the local Haitian economy. Many tourists aren't even aware Labadee is in Haiti. Maimon is well west of PP, which for the Sosua economy might as well be on a different island.
