Thanks for your feedback guys...
Well guys, I am sitting in an internet cafe in Barra and there is no street tail at all, except the same couple of skinnies I have seen 10 times. Still, I am actually enjoying myself more and relaxing in the atmosphere. If I had come here straight from Europe I would propably be frustrated, but having spent a week prior in Sao Paulo I am not too bad.
I think this is the sort of place you need to spend some real time in to get to know, and then you will have a good time. On the upside, last night I called a couple of chicks from the internet and got a great feeling from them on the phone (better than in Sao Paulo), very friendly and all willing to do BBBJ. Maybe will pop one tonight.
I deliberately did not name anyone who talked up Barra, so please Cachorro, don´t take any offence !!! I personally just find it small and boring.
If I was based in a livelier area, there would be more chance of running into some action.
Anyone heard of the Anne Elk Monty python sketch, with the guy trying to get the lady to give him her new theory about the brontosaurus, and keeps asking her the same question, what is your new theory and she keeps coughing and spluttering and telling him it is her theory and nobody elses, for half an hour, until finally she says, well I won´t ruin it for you. Check it out yourself at http://www.mkandrew.com/CureHepC9.htm ´ It is hillarious !!!
By the same note, somebody please tell me where is the Casquinha de Siri and the Fashion Club !!!!! I am always willing to give advice where I can, especially for Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Belgium, Spain, ask me anything you like !!!!
Cheers,

Casquinha de Siri and the Fashion Club
Hey Coupe 66,
Both places are out near towards the aeroclube plaza. Fashion club is very close to Aeroclube Plaza and Casquihna de Siri is out a bit further, maybe 10 minutes. If you haven't been to the plaza, go. Cafe Cancun, Rock in Rio cafe, lots of bars and lots of girls there, too.
Enjoy
Coupe 66 back from an interesting week in Salvador !!!!
Hi all, thanks for your help and your advice. I returned from Salvador to Sao Paulo last saturday. Overall I have to say it was an interesting experience and I am glad I went there, but I am not sure I would return. There are far too many other places in the north east coast of Brazil to explore.
Although I was only there a week, I am someone who has travelled a great deal and think I am quite a good judge of people. For some reason, the average person in the Salvador area is not very friendly. Maybe it is too hot, maybe they are too conservative, catholic, who knows ?? There are sexy looking girls everywhere, but it is very hard to attract their attention, more difficult than most other places I have ever visited, honestly !!!! I have spoken to other tourists there, who also told me that they found the locals much more unfriendly than in Natal or reciefe, for example. Therefore, what is the point in being somewhere, if you just can admire the women, and have no chance of being with them, apart from the professionals of course.
Anyone who comes to Salvador, thinking it is dirt poor and the women will throw themselves at you will be sorely mistaken. It is a big city, there is quite a lot of affluence, the shopping malls are full of people going about their business. I was surprised at how much wealth there seems to be there. Next time I will head to a poorer, or at least smaller coastal town. You have no more chance of pulling a girl in Barra shopping than you would in a mall in Vienna, Rome or Dallas, honestly, maybe less !!!!!! So anyone who writes articles about getting great take-out in the shopping malls or Fashion Club is talking pure crap !!!!! On walking around shopping Barra maybe 15 times I must have seen a maximum of 2 suspected hookers !!!!
If anything there seems to be a general dislike and suspicion of foreigners, it is as if they do not care or need your money, and here I am talking about the shops etc, not the professionals. Also this place Fashion Club is a high end disco full of young, well off locals, not a place for a fat tourist to pick up some desperate peasant girl. I am sorry if I sound negative on this posting, but I am just being honest. I am 38 years old, not bad looking and can converse in portuguese, so if I could not get anywhere pulling a local girl, then god help the older, fatter, whiter tourist who can not speak the language !!!! I was honestly very surprised by these things in Salvador, it was not what I was expecting at all.
On the favourable side of course I did meet some nice people, I absolutely loved the weather and the beautiful beaches. One night downtown in Pelhourinho I pulled a fantastic looking sexy lady sitting in Praca de Sa, but she was the only one !!!! I took her back to my hotel in Barra, payed her 100 reals including her taxi back. I will post her photo in due course. I also visited Casa de Siri, but not on a Monday night. There were at least 75 very decent looking ladies there, I could not fault it. Also had a very good experience with a lady from there. I also visited a nightclub on the way there, it was a dive, avoid these places, 30 reals to get in and low quality ladies.
So if I just wanted somewhere to go for a suntan and Casa de Siri every night, Salvador would be fine. However I want more than that, and as I said before, if I do not like the people of an area, then i do not like the place. Normally if you are somewhere for a week, you will run into a few situations which will give you the opportunity to chat up a local, not in Salvador. Be my guest, go there and see for yourself. The people there are fairly cold and distant, which is strange considering how hot the weather is. In Sao Paulo people will chat to you in a shop, where are you from, that is intesting etc etc. In Salvador, in a week, I do not think 1 person ever asked me where I was from, even though you stand out like a sore thumb as a foreigner.
So would I go back, not sure, maybe one day, but there are plently of other places to go first where maybe people will be more friendly and gratefull of my visit and my contribution to the local economy.
second the notion that Salvador is AWESOME
I spent 30 days this past summer and loved every second of it...I am gearing up for another month in May. One suggestion is if you are staying for 2 weeks or more, enroll in a class (language, music, cooking, Capoiera, something)...you can meet awesome foriegners doing that...met a cute Euro chic and a couple Canadians that put out for free! Cant beat that price! My music/drum class in Pelo, for example, cost 3 dollars every 2 hours...how cheap is that!
Now, on to the p*ssy. Although you cant just pull a$$ out of any mall or restuarant, it is in abundance and available. I often found some girls I met in Barra at the Claro shop hanging out in AeroClubbe on Friday and Saturday nights or at Club Tropicana across the street at a big party there...and they were very available..some at costs, and some not. I met and boned 2 chicas from regular clubs at no costs, so my recommendation is learn Portuguese and go to work.
I found Salvador to be much safer than Rio and the chicas were more chill. Rio chicas are very Machiavellian, and will try to gouge you for every dime...even the friendly ones...I had girls quote me 100R for the whole night, without any negotiation on my end...some asked for 20R for the cab since Salvador is gigantic...but you cant beat that...
Also, look at the classifieds. I encountered 2 situations in Piedade area (closer than Pelourinho if staying in Barra)...20R per half hour...its also a cool area to walk around and shop...its between Campo Grande and Pelo, and has a ton of shops, etc...I got 3 pairs of perscription glasses there for about 100USD total...
My expectation for my next stay is to lock down about 4 free situations that I can f*ck whenever...get a phone and a few girls on the roster, and you are good to go...every guy at my school had 1-2 *girlfriends* that didnt even have to give carfare...they redefine loyalty.
