My biggest takeaways are to only bring enough cash for drinks (max $50US) and lock-up everything in your room while sober prior to going out.

Besides the usual overcharges I've only experienced theft twice in the DR. The first, a pair of streetwalkers in Santo Domingo latched on to me, and one tried to steal my wristwatch. Unfortunately for her, my inexpensive time piece only expands to a set size that doesn't slip easily over my big hands. Despite the brazen attempt one still tried to get me to take her back to my hotel room. Yeah, like I'd trust you in my room after you just tried to rob me.

As the two were connected that means they left the more expensive razor behind. What a moron. I've got 3 other compatible chargers back in the States, so no big loss, but still sucks that I can't shave or find a replacement charger in Sosua.
They are no reason for me to down play the potential for one to be stolen from in the DR it happens every second of the day and night somewhere in the country but if I look at the dangers that I have personally noticed it no where near match's some of the other parts of the world I have visited. Since the beginning of time they have been prostitutes and thieves they go hand in hand.

Are guys finding that the most attractive chicas in D'Latins are consistently asking for 3000 and above even for ST?

The girls always start by asking for the moon. Sometimes newbies pony up. 3000 pesos is 2 weeks salary for most working girls in the DR. I met Haile Barry at Rumbas asking for 3k and she was firm. I saw her 3 hours later begging for 1k. There is always way more women then guys buying. Most girls go home with no sales so they are motivated.

If you run into one quoting that high of a price, then goes down to 1500 or 2000, take her ass to the cabana. Too many stories here about chicas dropping the price just to get you to take them, then once in your hotel room they jack the price up again and threaten to call the police if you don't agree to pay it.

Guys, thanks for keeping me up to date on the pick pockets, covered BJs, street scams, etc. I'd like to work a Sosua trip in this year, in between my travels to other destinations around the globe, so its good to know what folks are experiencing, even if it is a general decline in the environment. As a side note, there have always been pickpockets in Sosua, but maybe the problem has gotten worse?

Perhaps people are so used to it, they don't see it as an issue or eyesore? As far as mice in the rooms, I would find this bothersome. I realize this is the 3rd world, but some extermination and general maintenance would go a long way. I guess if you are there long enough, you might get used to these conditions? I certainly love the view, but not with rodents in my room.

D'Latinos gets busy around 11:00 p.m. and there are plenty of chicas available.
I have had two chicas recently from D'Latinos around 11:00 p.m., both young and very attractive IMHO, who agreed without any bargaining to 1500 pesos to do the deed. In fact I awarded a 500 pesos superior performance bonus to both, bring the cost up to 2000 pesos each, but they initially agreed to 1500 pesos.
I just approach them, chat and flirt with them a bit, ask them to step outside to chat, offer them 1500 pesos for a "rato" and they can take it or leave it. They just say yes, OK. No one ever mentions 3000 or 4000 to me, or perhaps I am just not listening. If they did, I would clutch my chest and fall to the floor. Chris[/QUOTE]Hmmm Boca Chica had its hay day in the early 2000s and before I was told. Sosua is on the decline buts has a lot of gas in its tank. Before BC can regain its reign I think it needs the following:
1. More chicas who speak English. Alot of the chicas that come for work and don't live in BC comes from Andres, SD, and San Pedro. These chicas don't speak much English or none at all. Hence the need for a lot of Touts. Even some of my boys use Touts. I don't understand why. I learned my second trip I can use a calculator to make a deal on how much pesos I want to offer and the chica can used to same to counter. Using a Touts is a sign of a sucker as I later learned.
2. B. C. Needs more hotels but I guess that will come with supply and demand. Their are a lot of close down hotels due to a lack of business.
3. B. C needs more clubs catered to tourist. The Batey (the only club now left open after 2:30am) plays about 2 hip hop songs per hour, no country, no pop, no rock, or techno- they seem to be stuck on 50 cent. Its no live DJ. There club is basically for the local crowd and they have a lot of gays nights were the gays take over the dance floor.
4. B. C. Has more Touts than tourist. 6 guys in the middle of the street trying to tell you were to park. Its so unnecessary.
5. Police in B. C. Need to be controlled. If you give money to a street cop they will label your car and stop you almost every time for more. I don't even like talking to street cops except Rambo the Tourist Officer.
But on a good note B. C. Is cheaper, easier, and safer to get to and from the airport. B. C. Does have EL Capital within 20 minutes. More things to do there as far as sight seeing. If more tourist start coming to B. C. More chicas will come from the surrounding cities. I made a wrong call on the GFE in BC. It is better there than Sosua. A lot of B. C. Ladies with stay with you as long as you like giving you the GFE. Its not enough business hurry to go get back in line for the next dude. They are more likely to stay with you as long and you like them and course you are paying.
I would love to see B. C. Make a fight for its crown back. Sosua has the crown and the attitudes of the chicas reflected it, I say thereby leading to a decline of appreciation of business. It shouldn't surprise knowing the business smarts of a lot of the chicas.

I rarely approach these females first- to do this gives them the upper hand and a sometimes inflated price. If I have to have her I may just walk up say "mi gusta su estilo" and walk off as if I am done with her. If she comes back I will give her the ""te ves bien, pero usted es demasiado caro para mí" Then I will tell her the price range I am looking for deflated in a little. Quite honestly she paid extra for the weave, outfit, and nails so it understandable. But its game against game.
