General Reports

Arrived in Bangkok the other day and checked into the lodge. As usual the service was wonderful and checking in was a breeze. Was asked if I wanted a drink upon arrival and ater 25 hours I needed one. The beer was cold and was quickly brought to me.

Because it was close to closing I asked about a friend who worked there last fall. Sure enough she was there and came running over when she spotted me. Ater the initial greetings it was decided she would like to spend the rest of the evening talking and what ever.

The lodge had not changed since I last was here. So far the service has been good, dinner was excellent, and the breakast has been tasty. I am happy I decided to stay here again.

I will add reports as things happen on this holiday, but for now lets say things are of to a great start.

Yep, royally screwed up and mixed up the day/date.

But stopped over anyway with my country manager, place fairly full but fortunately we had booked front row table. Mick and his gorgeous TG were up on the mezzazine sipping cocktails.

After the first one hour, place was jammed, our front row seats became the mish pond - people dancing, drinking, raising hell. Although I didn't understand a word of the music, it was good. Lot of local rap music, several guest appearances, including a farang older couple - she played the sax and he the harmonica.

Left at 12:30 to return to Giotto's pool party.

Spri'13, June is fine. The weather is better then than it is now (or in March or even May) in my opinion; the heat in April flat out sucks, it really is the cruelest month. July might be even better than June. It gets rainy in August, but not so much that it is a problem- it is actually cooler here in July/August than in some cities in temperate zones, like Tokyo or NYC.

Surprised to see that it rains more on average in May than in June. I think I'll leave next week and come back in. . .June.

Good to know that June is low season and less competition and better prices. However, airfare is not cheap all year round to Thailand. Where's the best airfare deal from the east cost of Canada to Thailand?

You must know something the Australian Immigration office don't, permanent residency takes 2 years, lots of paperwork, statements etc..

A friend of mine married to a thai woman 2 years ago just got her permanent residency approved.

Great meeting some of the ISG crew in my stay at LL, but after 20hrs travelling need to unpack/unwind and my reports will fall like "leaves from the trees" when I am conscious again!

Anyone got any intel on the best place to buy a made to measure suit in BKK?
Most of the info on these forums seems a little old.
Any idea what I should pay? Would I be better buying one in Hong Kong?

With the current rates I personally feel that Hong Kong is a better value right now.

In BKK I like Hermann's on the corner of Suk Soi 3. But there are way way way too many good tailors in BKK. I use a very special fabric due to where I live so my price is not valid to this conversation. The reason I ended up with them is they were willing to get the right material. Plus pricing is very dependent on the material you want, lining and other items so it's hard to judge. If you want to pay 200 USD for two suits and five shirts... then you get what you pay for.

Alterations and ordering items to be mailed out to me and such has never been an issue with these folks. They have a web site and they do answer emails.

This place was actually very good. The TGF enjoyed it very much and I had an OK time on the scrub. Went back for also just a foot massage later and that was much better then other shops around Suk.

There was a regular Thai massage place off of Soi 22 before Queens park that was legit and very good thai massage as well that Giotto advised me to go to.

Never got beyond Aviva, Tulip and Eden for the other kind of massages so not much new to report on those ends. Just a happy camper at all three places so no reason to write up a massage report.

I can recommend either Raja's in Soi 4 or New Royal Fashions in Soi 11. One of the good things about NRF is that Mr Sam travels the world each year and you can be measured up for suits in your own country and have them mailed.

June is the off season. Probably no beach will be that good in June, as it's the start of rainy season. Since the monsoon comes up diagonally from the southest towards the northwest, somewhere on the west cost would be the best to take girls. If you're looking for a beach town with girls, then Phuket might be a safe bet. Although, there's no guarantee that you won't have rain even there.
