hi don,
typically a decent (not going so far as to say 'nice'), clean apartment in cebu city will run from p10, 000 and up depending on the location, age, security, view and whether it is furnished. (what i would call a 'nice' place, for example, a city lights condo in busay which is very well and fully furnished would rent for about p45, 000 with a mountain view--city view is a little higher.) most are unfurnished, which in the philippines means it has nothing. no airconditioning, no refridgerator, no hot water, nothing. if it has any of those things it will cost more. also, expect for most landlords to demand a one year minimum contract and probably at least 3 months deposit and 2 months advance rent. don't be shocked when they ask for 6 months or even a year in advance! the rental prices in cebu are skyrocketing due to koreans coming as students and renting everything in site while paying astronomical prices without negotiating and agreeing to pay many months in advance, etc. always plan to negotiate and if at all possible have a filipino (but not a scum-sucking real estate broker! ) negotiate for you. filipinos will always charge a higher price if they know a foreigner is involved. i highly suggest to avoid using a real estate broker. they are the least honorable lot i have met in cebu. a good taxi driver is your best bet. drive around the areas you are interested in and look for signs and ask the guards at the gates of compound for houses/apts for rent.
areas outside cebu city are substantially less expensive. areas such as consolacion, compostella, lilo-an, etc are much cheaper than in the city itself. however, with traffic it can be a painstaking hour or more to drive to the city from these locales. (painstaking not because these locations are far from the city, rather due to having to muddle through traffic and congestion.)
high-speed internet is avaiable in most areas of the city. however, you should check with your chosen provider before you sign as lease. they will likely need to survey the site and check the area (local boxes for dsl or line of site for wireless) before they can tell you whether service is truly available. due to my business i have dealt with all 3 major isps in cebu: globe dsl, pldt dsl and smart wi-fi. for the typical user who doesn't require alot of bandwidth, i would recommend smart wifi. it is installed quickly and only requires line-of-site to a smart cell tower and costs p999/mo. if you require a faster connection. well, globe and pldt both suck. but, pldt sucks less. i pay nearly p6, 000/mo for sdsl which is supposed to deliver 2. 2mbps download and upload. however, only 128kbps is guaranteed!
hope that helps!
thanks! do the areas outside of city get hi-speed internet also? is mactan an option? i saw an ad in cebu classified for compond studio $100.00 a month? i do not have to be in town around bars etc all the time. don
Don't worry about bringing a girl to your place. The girls are pretty honest. But of course don't leave your money and valuables all over the place. Put them in the hotel room safe. Take the "non bar girls" to Queensland. They will be very impressed.
On the ground level floor of Robinson mall (across from the raja hotel) there is a an Internet cafe called Cafe France with computers (some may have cameras)
Don't go around saying. ANYWHOO. That is fu*king gaaheey!
Get in touch with your Filp roots and take some Tagalog/Cebuano lessons so people will treat you like a Flip (I can use that word since I am a Flip). What ever you do DO NOT tell your families relatives you are in Flipland. Or they will ask for money more than any other person you will meet. If you don't give them any enough (and what ever it is. It will NEVER be enough) money. They will guilt you to death for the rest of your life!
The word mestizo is old school. The new word to use is Tisoy! So you will be more welcomed if you say you are Tisoy rather than mestizo. As in "Tisoy Ako".
Cheers for all the advice (sans the gay insinuation). Don't' think I need help in talking to women or saying the wrong thing, just logistical stuff and where to find them (seems like everywhere). Re: relatives I know what ya mean. Most are either too far away to do anything about it, or well off themselves so no biggie (none are in cebu). I'd be more worried about them wanting to just take up my time taking me to boring tourist/historic sites when all I want is to hunt for babes. Relatives actually know I'm there but they are mostly in manila so there ya have it.
Other advice taken and appreciated tho. Tisoy. Cool. Not really much time to learn too much tagalog lingo (or am I lazy? ) but I'm happy to learn a couple phrases I may not know. I'll just charm the felines shirts off with my manly american accent, then throw in tagalog words intermittantly. Or just frggin' smile at them. I'm obviously american so will they really judge me and not wanna let me bang them if I don't' know all the slang? Doubt it. I don't look Filipino so they'll be surprised. That's what I do on the cruise ships (plenty of filipinas work on those) here in US tho it's not easy on cruiseliners cuz they aren't allowed to fraternized and watched like hawks via camera (if you have a hot chambermaid tho, that's if GOLD cuz they are already there. I had one on a P&O cruiselineer once, The Adonia. NCL cruise ships seem much more strict tho).
Identical twin girl just emailed me again. Think I got a stage 5 clinger and we haven't' even met yet.
Been to cebu and hope my little experience could be of help for first-timers here in the Philippines.
As for accommodation, try booking directly at the hotel web site. It is cheaper than having a so-called portal do it for you.
If you don't know any hotel in the area and are just searching through search engines, forums like this are helpful.
Some of the hotels I've been to are the following, differentiated by their attractions:
Budget Hotels near Cebu's red light district
Westpoint Inn http://www.westpointinn-cebu.com
Europa Mansionette Inn http://www.europamansionetteinn.com
Cebu Grand Hotel http://www.cebugrandhotel.com
If the beach is your thing, urban resorts like the following can be a very tidy location: Costabella Tropical http://www.costabellaresort-cebu.com
Casa del Mar Golf & Dive Hotel http://www.casadelmar-golfresort.com
As for sex, I have to suggest free lancers. They are quality fuck, rather than, say, regulars at a club. Try hanging out around fuente de osmena, where the bars are.
Hope it helps
Stay lucky you all!
I looked at the website and accommodations look good. Is it an illusion? Can anyone tell me why accomms are so cheap relative to other hotels? Is it a bad part of town? Not good running water? Far away?
Thanks

My plan (kinda) in Cebu
Just some quick notes. As mentioned I wouldn't really worry about a bar fine stealing from you. Don't leave stuff out that is real valuable and easy to snag out, but that goes without saying at all times. I went to Cadillac Cafe on a weeknight and it was dead. If you are going to make the long drive out there you probably have to go on a weekend when supposedly people go there. I had a hell of a time getting a taxi out of there.
Also, in regards to being Philipino. I am not but look it. It works for me and against me. I don't recommend when you are in the P4P scene that you even say anything to the sort that you are as it seems to be a buzz kill for them at times. Sometimes women won't talk to me in the P4P scene because they assume I am Philipino and it's over. Try not speaking Tagalog in that scene also might behoove you because they might not get suspicious. I try and joke around and use words in Tagalog and it can bite you in the butt sometimes if they suspect you are Philipino in the bar fine or freelancer scene. Just my experience.

I am sure a lot of people will agree that every time I hear that I just want to strangle the person.
Tisoy is just slang of mizTESO+y (try to ask someone when you are there why they add a Y at the end)
Yeah forget speaking Tagalog but being an ABF, you will find your experience over all will be so much more if you can understand and speak a bit of Bisayan. There are so many foreigners living in The Phils who think they are experts... but never take the time to learn the local dialects. Language is the basis of most cultures. If you show you want to learn. They people will open up so much more. More than you could ever believe is possible.

Mandaue is kind of out of the way which is probably the reason for the good prices. I suspect the room photographs were takend when the place first opened -- they might not look that good today. Why don't you email them and ask how long they have been in business? Also ask them how far it is to SM Mandaue. It's a small place, and they don't get many foreigners in there. It might be a good place to meet some regular girls.
If it's your first time to Cebu I recommend you try for one of the hotels between Fuente Osmena Circle and Ayala mall. There are many to pick from.

They also don't want some Filipina wife getting mad at them if they find out they are messing around with their husband.
No one in Cebu using Tagalog unless they are speaking to someone from the NCR or a person of authority. But Girls cream when they hear a forginer speaking Bisayan. Maybe cause it is so rare.

There is a restaurant on the top of Holiday Plaza, which is on Ramos Ave and just a short walk from Robinsons / Cebu Midtown Hotel. Great view, but the food and service are only passable.
As someone mentioned, there is a net cafe inside Robinsons. I preferred the place which is down the street from the National bookstore (across the street from the Mango Ave Jollibee). You have little cubicles with some amount of privacy. The only problem is that the gamers can be annoying.
Remember someone mentioned a restaurant on top of hotel with a good view. (will search 4 it)
Sorry I've read dozens of pages here but I haven't seen anything on where internet cafes are with a cam. I can confirm meetings with my internet girls here, and see them on cam first to screen them. So can someone suggest internet cafe near raja? A couple of suggestions would be helpful.
Europa Mansionette Inn http://www.europamansionetteinn.com
It is kind of far away if you don't have a car. You will have to walk up to A.S Fortuna near Kaona Grill to get a taxi. That also goes for the girls when they leave.... so that means if you bar fine a girl in one bar... she will tell all the other girls in that bar where you are staying. Bar girls don't like to walk. Of course she can text her Habal-Habal driving boyfriend to come pick her up.
It won't take that long to get to the Mango bars at night from there... but during the day there could be a lot of traffic. Forget about it during rush hour.
SM from there during the day no traffic = 20 mins
SM from there during the day with traffic = 60 mins
If you are really looking to save money ... just stay at the Jade Court that is near by. Don't mind the roaches it is part of the Phil experience.
There are also a ton of Jap/Krong-Krong KTV's along AS Fortuna that NEVER get any reviews here because most guys here don't like that style of mongering. But some of the most beautiful girls are there.
-
Well WC, you seem like just the man to do the review!!!
What are the procedures and payments? Last time in Cebu I met a couple stunners in Lone Star who had worked at King Kong KTV in Lapu Lapu. So, I'm interested in trying these places out.

Either mega hot girls, very young pretty girls (just pretty not good enough unless they are young, yeah I'm a pig), or girls that seem slutty are Bruce's golden criteria
Cheers

Go in, Sit down, The mommy brings every girl out to stand in front of you. You have to pick a girl to sit and drink with you the entire time she sits with you. Or you can go back into a VIP room for a set price where your "consumables" are included for a set time. You still pay for her drinks. Then you can negotiate with the girl. HJ, BJ .... maybe FS. I forget the prices .. I never remember or look at prices . But it is not cheap. (hence the reason no one here goes there) Or you can bar fine the girl and of course tip the girl the next day.
But these places are mostly frequented by older Filipinos (with money), Japs or Koreans.. but not so much by the younger Koreans (English students).
The younger Koreans are now all at the Mango bars. They come for a few months, get the girls preggo and then tell the girl he has to go back to Korea but can't tell his family about the baby. He doesnt want to shame his family. So the girls are left to raise and support the child on her own. Not saying it is only young Koreans doing that... but seems to be common these days with the amount of them in Cebu. I guess the good thing is in 18 years there should be some cute half Koreans working in the bar!

Cheers
Yeah .. there is a new QL right in back of Jade court. It says on the sign 5 (*****) accomodations. And if they say it on the sign, it must be true. It used to have a kick ass health center inside. But it got busted. It had the hottest girls cause they ran an ad in the Sunstar saying they where paying a crazy amount of money. For a few months it was the place to be. They even had an early bird special and introductory membership rate. The health club is now for rent if you know someone who knows someone to make it work.
But the rooms are clean and a lot newer than the White Gold location.

Thanks WC, I'll have to give it a look next time. I always assumed KTV was for karaoke TV and I'm a terrible singer. If no one is going to pressure me to sing a song, I'll be happy.
When I was 19 I was seduced by an older Korean barmaid in downtown San Diego. I wonder if I can return the favor by hitting on one of the Korean female students. The K guys seem to ignore them, and some of them are seriously hot looking. I know Koreans tend to be insular, but who knows when they are away for K-land!

Funny short Cebu story
Arrived in cebu yesterday in the afternoon after a few days in bohol, where I did not found something to do in the evening, but where its possible to enjoy a great landscape. In cebu I knew a girl whom I met at a free datinggsite, and then we have had some yahoo chats when I was at home. So I know half of her family cause everybody was wavng in the cam. Never had a talk about sexual things before, only normal conversation. In here I wrote her a sms and asked if she wants to meet. She agreed, and we choose a mall for first meeting. She asks if it is possible to bring her cousin, sure I said.
Well, there have been two cousins and we went for a little mall. Dinner and talk. Cousins said that they have to go for work, and we can meet later in disco. So I have been alone with my lady and askd what she wants to do. She said maybe a little rest in hotel before going. Sure I agreed.
Wow. It was really a great rest. In the taxi she started touching, and in the hotel she has been really cute too. Lot of hugging and kissing. As I like it. Only problem: she was a great sms girl, and did a lot of messages. With so called cousins. About her: she said weeks ago in the chat and in the mall too that she is 20, but when I asked her to see her funny picture in the id, I concidered that she was 18. Okay, why not.
After a few really relaxing hours in the hotel she said that she has to go home for a few minutes to talk with her mum, but she will be there 2 hours later or so. Hahaha. She changed her dress, and her mum must be a real seximaniac if she I wearing this for her. She called a "friend" to bring her home. I have seen his car. Business must runing really good. Was the same friend she was texted before. She allowed to look at sms cause it is visayan language. I do not speak this at all, only some words. But as far as I understood she was going to a place called jaguar. Okay, she promised to be back soon, I promised to wait for her. And she went. Money was never a theme, only the 400 pesos for the meeting with cousins.
Needless to say: she did not came back this night. I went out to a few clubs and have had fun. This morning there was a message from her, that her mum has fever and she does not know when she can come. Lets see what happens.
