Me and JesseJames were on Walking Street last night. We were chilling at an ice cream parlor and there was a guy on the street selling toy rats. I decided to buy a couple for my nephew and niece. I don't remember if I was speaking to the guy in Thai or not, but he showed me his sign where 1 cost 40 baht and 3 cost 100 baht. I said cool, so I bought the 3 pack. The guy showed me the other side of his sign where he had written 1 for 80 baht and 3 for 200 baht. I damn near fell out of my chair laughing.
It just goes to show that in Thailand the first price is not the final price. And also that YMMV. One guy reports he went into iBar and got a girl for 2000 baht. That does not mean the next guy is going to go in and have to give 2000 baht. He may be charged, 3000,1000, or even get her for free. That is why you always negotiate for yourself and do not let the price that someone else has paid dictate what you pay.
A pleasant surprise indeed. Tuesday my old navy and college buddy asked me if I would be in Thailand on Friday. I said yes. This is a man who speaks fluent Thai, understands the local culture well, has worked there for 12 years and made the most of his single status in South East Asia.
He also mentioned that the GoGo bars in Pattaya specially seem very clearly focused on looting customers. The girls look good, no doubt but a majority of them have had their looks surgically enhanced in every thinkable manner. Plenty of them have body art and / or piercings which tends to put off a few people I know. The prices are absolutely insane. A bottle of water alone can cost you 100 baht. Lady drinks cost 300 baht in most places on WS barring a few smaller joints with less number of less pretty girls. Most of the girls are not interested in barfining at all and if they do, it is probably because you have spent a lot on her and the mamasan has persuaded her. This does not guarantee a good time back in the room, if she ever makes it to that stage. And if she does, expect nothing more than a ST. Anyway the price she will quote for a LT will be prohibitive. The clubs to watch out for are Sapphire, Sensations, What's Up, Iron, Alcatraz, Skyfall which have the prettiest girls. Baccara, I think, has totally lost the plot. Windmill & Sugarbaby cater to a different taste, more raunchy. The rest of the joints, IMHO, are not worth setting foot into.
I am usually a very positive minded guy and tend to have fun in any environment. I was in Pattaya in FEb 2016 and I had a great time, including a couple of pulls from GoGo bars. But the customer drink is only a $1 cheaper. Peculiarly the bar I deem that has best looking girls has lady drinks at 140 bht. However a steep tier bar fine of 1500 before midnight and 1000 after. Plastic surgery is a turn off because it makes me wonder what the girl looked like beforehand. I'm not too big on Alcatraz but they have low tier soapy massage girls beat.
