So there is no hypocrisy if a Thai buddhist drinks alcohol (unless he is a monk, the rules are more strict for them). As long as they remain in control of themselves there is no problem. And if you get out of control? No real problem either. You have failed and can do better next time. After all you have still many lives in front of you before you ascend to Nirvana.
