The other 5 were obviously the safest ones to do it because they were not up for an election anytime soon. But I have no doubt that if 1-5 of them had refused to sign another 1-5 from the Dem caucus would have stepped in to do it.

To allow the Trump / Repub Shutdown to continue past the point where Trump and all of the Congressional Repubs had finally caved on their position re Federal worker layoffs and backpay as well as SNAP would have been inflicting more unnecessary pain on the American people given the pending FAA-related Thanksgiving Holiday travel schedule. As it is, the FAA still might not be fully staffed and ready to go that weekend. It was that close.

Imagine for a moment if there is a horrble plane crash during the upcoming holiday travel period. The FAA is already hobbled and primed for such an outcome thanks to President Musk and DOGE.

But it would be blamed on everyone who didn't sign on the line which is dotted to get the government up and running again.
