I would reccomend it to "new" visitors to BKK. Don't think that you guys who have experience ther would actually benefit from it.

Yeh language isn't such a barrier.
I know of couples where the girl spoke no english and the guy spoke no Thai when they met, but somehow later they got married and had kids and at some point the girl learned English. But I guess sex did all the talking initially.
I have had a great encounter with a black girl who only spoke Spanish and a few words of English, although I do understand some Spanish words of course. No paper, pencil, or calculator were needed, but I was assisted by meeting in a location where wanting sex would be taken for granted.

I discovered this China northern region of Dalian, Chingdao, Shengyang, Harbin ect about 2-3 years ago. I was very surprised by the incredible beauty and elegance of girls in this northern China regions. There are so much girls available there pay or free, be patient. Again if you are younger and look okay, China is perfect for freebies. I have tried so many times try to talk to very cute girls on the streets and department stores, I would say half of the times the reaction is very good, and I have score so many girls that are looking for foreign friends or want to hang out with foregners in this way. Most of them are students or are studying English. This freebie scene is something Thailand absolutely missing.

Had a first-time experience last night- my cab got stopped by two young cops on a motorbike just outside the entrance to my building (off of Thonglor). I was told to get out and was searched. They were pretty friendly about it, especially after I got them talking about football (they asked me where I was and I told them I was out watching footie- my Thai is not great but functional, which also seemed to put them at ease). Still, they went through my wallet (in full view) and all my pockets (neglecting my shirt, oddly enough), and patted me down. I was concerned about having contraband planted on me. As I said, they weren't at all hostile and in the end sent me on my way with a smile. Somewhat disconcerting all the same, having been entirely without provocation on my or the cabbie's part (they checked his docs, too). There seemed to be a major police presence on the streets last night- they were out in force around Hualongpong and Chinatown, where I had been earlier. I wonder what's up.

I realize this is not a unique experience and may have just been happenstance (bored cops?), but thought I'd post this just the same. I've been taking long trips to Thailand for 15 years, and have been more or less based here for two, but up to now have had virtually no interaction with the cops. Curious if such incidents are on the rise.

While i come to Bangkok every month, i have not been doing any exploring for quite a while. (I travel between London and Beijing via Bangkok – one day my US boss will work out this is not such an efficient way to travel between those two cities, but the air fares are low so i suppose he would not really care) This time i got stuck in Bangkok for 6 days because i could not get a flight back to merry old England, so i decided to allocate a few days exploring the bar scene rather than spending all my time with my regular friend.
Patpong – Took a quick look around but the only place which seemed ok was the old regular Kings Castle, next to Super Pussy up on the Surawong Rd side. Its reasonably big, has a good supply of girls and was totally packed on Thursday evening at about 9:30pm. It was exactly the same as all the other times i have dropped by. Many bars fluctuate between good and bad, but this place always remains good – with the following caveats below. This place is unusual as about 20% of the girls only work part time, they typically have day jobs or are students and use this place to top up their bank account. Most of the good girls only go to the bar from Monday to Thursday to avoid the weekend drunken crowds – they are also very choosy and will accept a night with no customers rather than go with someone they do not like. I have found these girls to very attractive (with the above restrictions ugly girls would be wasting their time) but very inexperienced. You will often find them dancing in a very half hearted manner up the back of the dance floor and they look very uncomfortable and may be too shy to approach you. (In these cases just ask the mama-san to get her to come over.) Now for the down side – the service level can vary massively. I have had some terrible dud's – but because they look so gorgeous i keep on coming back. Some are also greedy, thus the price range can vary massively. But with all these faults this is the main reason i come back to this bar and have established long term relationships with a few of the girls – which can be useful. For the other girls(sic) about 40% are your typical full time bar girls, which you can find in Soi or nana. These girls all give good service, have a standard price, but are normally not as attractive. The remaining 40% are katoy's – so be careful.
Nana – I tried about a dozen bars and in the end its the old trusty Rainbow bar on the ground level and Level 1 which was the best. The bars on Level 2 had a small number of very average girls – i would give this level a total miss. Erotica – in the corner (the old school girl bar) was ok, but not great. On Level 1 most of the bars were average, except for Rainbow in the back corner (Rainbow bar in the front was also very average). On the ground level the Rainbow bar in the back corner was also good. The two rainbow bars were packed and had a very large selection of girls. None of which i would class as gorgeous – but some had nice faces and good bodies. Service level (as is normal) is ok and the price fairly standard.
Soi – I tried the bigger bars on the left side as you walk from asok side to the back. Deja Vue has really dropped in term of quality – very few nice girls. It still had a good show, but clearly lacked the range of girls. The nicer girl's don't like doing the buck naked shows – as they can get good business without it. The next bar up, safari – or something like that – had a much larger range of girls (it also has very expensive drinks at Baht140) There was 1 or 2 girls i found nice enough to take home. The next bar, Doll House reminded me of a bar i use to go to in chang mai – two stories with girls dancing on the upper level. This had a deja vue type show, but had a few more nicer girls. Like Deja Vue there were more solid than the normal thai girls, but ok nonetheless. Shark, my old favourite, had a very good supply of nice girls. The standard has really gone up – so i would recommend this bar as the best in soi right now (Deja Vue use to be my #1 4-5 months ago, but not any more). If i did not have a regular (the tallest girl in the bar – who is not a katoyi as an earlier post alluded to) i found a few of the girls i would have been very interested in taking out. Baccarat (or something like that) was the final bar. It was packed, had a good range of girls, but none i was interested in – or perhaps i was getting tired.
Grace Hotel – My final location was back to the famous Arab sector to look for Russians. I finally went to the disco in the grace hotel and all i can say is – don't bother turning up before mid-night. I was their from 23:30 to 00:30 and it was empty. I only counted 3 providers. They looked like a mixed Asian/Russian – so may have been from one of the stan's. This was on a Saturday evening. (i dropped by on Friday and it was even emptier, but as this is the day all good Muslims go to service i assumed this was a quiet evening). It did have a Russian feel to it, played some Russian songs, and made me feel homesick for my favourite Russian club in Beijing – the only issue was in Beijing there are normally a hundred Russian girls wriggling their bottom's around – in the grace hotel only 3 big bums sitting on a stool. Next time i will go to CM2.
I also dropped by the coffee shop and saw a few Russians, but nothing too spectacular. Also – i am use to Russians with blond hair – the girls i saw in the grace all had black hair – so they may have been girls from the middle east – so there was no way i was going to approach any of these women asking how much for anal – in case their brothers would come out of the wood work shouting Allah akbar as they attacked me.
One interested thing i did note – i brought up the topic of tests for the girls at the bars in my travels. I heard that EDEN does extensive tests for any nasty diseases before he allowed the girls to work, about 20% had aids (this was the famous lesbian action bar – so the girls were all long time professionals). This seems like a very high number, so i though i would ask about testing at some of the bars to see if a similar figure occurred. Unfortunately none of the girls knew what the rejection rate was – but i got some interesting information nonetheless.
I asked the girls at a number of various bars and got a similar answer – the better bars insisted on monthly blood tests. If the tests showed a nasty disease they were not allowed to work – so they normally go to the cheaper bars or worked the streets. This does NOT mean its safe to bonk these girls unprotected – as a blood tests does not show a range of diseases which are tissue related, clamydia is one. Also the tests are monthly, so its possible for a girl to catch something after a tests and work for 2 months before the results came in to disqualify them. But it does show the probability your girl has AIDS, HeP-C or any of the really nasty blood diseases is less (BUT NOT ZERO) for girls who work in the better bars. The high class KTV clubs have a weekly testing process – blood tests and pap smears – but these girls are very expensive.
My advise is to allways be protected, but i still like to select girls with low disease profiles if possible. You never know if your protection will fail you in the most critical moment.
An added comment, i found out that at one bar i occassionally frequent had 80 girls, out of a hundred, taking some form of drugs. From something they sniff (I assume cocaine) to stuff they inject. I found this very surprising - while common in the west, i though drug usage amoung working girls was a lot lower in Thailand - guyess i was wrong. Even more reason to be careful.

I agree about Deva Vu and Shark completely but its worth adding that Long Gun has perhaps 3 girls that make it to the Gorgeous category (which few bars have).
