Prepaids from outside will not work in DR. You can buy a real cheap one down there. Also, be real careful using a cell phone with a plan down there. Real expensive, about $2 a minute.
If you try to use a prepaid cell phone from the states that you use in the states, to make calls while you are in the dom rep, it will not work in the dominican republic, (unlike if you have a cell phone from the states that has a yearly plan, where you will get charged over 2 dollars per minute in roaming charges if you use it in dom rep).
I believe Gpiper may have been asking about bringing in prepaid cell phones and getting them unlocked and then activated with a dominican cell phone number to use on claro or orange.

Prepaid
Anyone know if the following prepaid cell phones work with Orange or Verizon in the DR?
LG 300G - Net10
Nokia 3595 - T Mobile
Nokia 2610 - AT&T
Motorola C168i - AT&T go phone
Motorola i425t - boost mobile
Motorola W175 - Tracfone
Samsung SCH-R450 - Metro PCS
Check your models frequences here:http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_do.shtml
Also it's cheaper to buy say Orange prepaid card in DR. Example Nokia 1200 is 590 peso + prepaid card

Quality is in the eye of the beholder, some guys like dark haitiana chicas, some guys want chicas with big boobs, other guys like light skin chicas, other guys want some good chemistry with the chica and looks are secondary. SDQ has a variety. Lineups change in many bars, so sometimes it is hit or miss at certain venues. GBP, the times I have been there had the same lineup. Bar 360, I was at twice and the second time I was there the lineup was different. Visit the different places and I am sure you will find something that turns you on.
Since I have never been to DR, I made my "list" based on what I read here and knowing what type of venues I prefer. I may be way off and that is why I am asking for input from readers of this forum. Any recommendations for SDQ would be appreciated by those that know SDQ well.
BQ Ribs, I couldn't tell from your post if you were indicating that the quality/services doesn't really vary in the venues in SDQ and that I could get the same quality, but cheaper in other venues (or that there is better quality in Sosua), or if those venues are just ridiculously overpriced to justify the difference in quality. Please clarify. (I've already made my plans for SDQ so I can't change them to Sosua-- maybe next trip).
Thanks
Samsung SCH-R450 - Metro PCS
As an aside, the prepaid phones they sell at Walmart are usually cheap, from 10 dollars and up (you can also buy reconditioned cell phones at the site for AT&T fairly cheap). I bought several samsung sch-u340 prepaid verizon cell phones at walmart for 20 dollars. A maid in one hotel offered to buy one from me for 40 dollars, I was told that particular phone costs more than 50 dollars in Dom Rep. You can always use a 20 dollar cell phone, that costs 50 dollars in Dom Rep to barter for sex. The chica thinks she is getting a 50 dollar gift for her services, when it only cost you 20 dollars.
I like having two of the same kind of cell phones in Dom Rep, one I just keep plugged in, so that I always have a fresh battery to swap into the phone that I use.

Have you considered Sosua? I think Sosua is one hundred times better for a first trip. I love Santo Domingo but I don't go just for the P4P. To go to Sosua you would need to fly into Puerto Plata (POP). If you can only find flights into Santo Domingo you can catch a bus to Sosua.
Hopefully someone else on this board will share their thoughtss.

Day 1 in SD
Well, I'm here. Got in yesterday at 5:45ish, between customs and picking up the rental I was at BAR 360 by 7PM. I was there until about 2:30AM catching up with my buddy, drinking beer (lots of beer) getting to know the girls. Finally went for Jenny, fantastic girl, great attitude, great service and the tighest toto I've had in a while. (I don't see how they can be in this business and still have it tight like that).
Well I can't complain about the prices (I'm getting the good friend discount) but I am having conversations with him in this regards.
The strange thing that I noticed while there. He has his tourists coming in and paying the prices asked, but over the night I saw 2 dominicans drop about 3,000 pesos in liquor alone, buying drinks for the girls, etc. But they never went with a girl??? His prices for liquor are slightly inflated than a normal bar, so why would a local drink there?
Anyway, I had a good night and I will be there again tonight. Offer still stands for beers call me if anyone is in country, my phone is 1-809-458-4246

If he liked what he saw, he would get her digits for some fun later on, but on his terms. For some men, good liquor has more value than good pussy.

That is funny but true. I would imagine looking at these fine ass women all of your life takes on a different meaning to a Dominicano.

Good Info From You Guys
Landed at 12:30 on August 6th. Got a room with reward points at the Jaragua ( I know! It was free however) But made reservations with Marco just in case at the Mystic. Very Clean considering the location and good people. Only issue is the little sho shine boys hustling you. I almost got a charge if it was not for Marco telling them to leave me alone.
Funny did not have to look for any company. Got gobbled up at 1:00 by a sweet eryka badu looking chick in the Casino. Hung with her until check in at 3:00. I don't know how she did it but at 4:30 she was knocking at my door. I love the Garden Suites.
Will post more when I have a chance.. So far the map worked great and shows well on my iphone. Looking at the charges for roaming, looks like it is really gong to hurt!
Anybody here? Hit me with a Im. Im looking for some adventure.

Five minute walk from you. From midnight on the street walkers will be on Independencia from Jaragua parking lot to Hotel Casano Dorado. It is a hit or miss but you should find at least one to your liking. $RD1500 or less, I only do less.

Went to independica last night for reveiw! Very good selection for a third world stroll. However, would not pay any of them over 1500 for nothing.

You are NOT supposed to pay them over RD1500, you are supposed to pay them RD1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We all think different. I can't see paying RD3000 for a #10 chica when a #6 or a #7 may very well provide better service. Hell, I have had some #5s give the best service on planet earth.
If you want the super stars try Foxys or I believe Doll House. I have never been to either because I don't care how good looking the girl is I am not willing to pay RD3500.
Do you have a rental or will you be using taxis to get around?
If you can't find the selection you want in SD hop on a bus and head to Sosua.

Strolling Santo Domingo is NOT a third world. You want to take a stroll in the third world? Hop on the Metro and take it to the last stop, Villa Mella. Spend an hour walking around that area.
