I myself am presently teaching myself Thai. I can't vouch for Rosetta Stone but can for Sybervision / Pimsleur.

Sybervision uses a conversational learning technique. You start learning key words and the course teaches you how use those to put together sentences. But like you say, a recording can't hammer you for missing the subtleties of the pronunciation. I figure I will get through all the lessons, then skype with a teacher to hit on my weak points and pronunciation.

Sybervision served me well through Spanish and German. I definitely thought their lessons and learning approach was worth the good money I paid. Don't you people think though that all you have to do is listen and you learn the language like magic. Learning is like anything else. You have to dedicate yourself to concentrate on a daily basis and stick with it. I have to confess though. At about lesson 15 of 30 I got burned out and needed a break. Yesterday I picked up where I left off and quickly learned I needed to back up a few lessons for the stuff I had already forgot.

I bought my Thai lessons over the internet. Somewhere. And they loaded up onto my iPhone as designed.

Like when I was trying to ask the waitress the other day why the man and woman were not talking to each other. I always know what I'm saying but it seems they don't. And it's funny how you can say to one person and they understand but if you say the same thing to another person they have no idea. I was trying to tell my school teacher gf that my cousin was pak wan and she was looking at me like a deer in headlights. When I finally decided to say "sweet mouth" in English she was like oh it is said paaaak waan. I'm like that is what the fuck I thought I said. But evidently it wasn't.

but she had another pet peeve about farang talking thai: she did tell me that she had an aussi boyfriend who spoke rather fluently thai, and wanted only to converse thai to her, but she pretended she could not understand him, because he spoke always impolite unaware of proper address or etiquette. that drove her mad especially in public. and in private when he wanted to speak sweet and intimate, a place where informal we would assume would be correct, sounded formal, wrong gender and translated, pushing her out of "the mood" every time. for example "pohm rak khoon" lol

I can imagine a well organised establishment can stay in those prices too, including their revenue and costs as they maximise some cost savings.

Just like a low cost airline, taking you from A to B with a freshly delivered jet liner.

I a not a fan of either low cost airline or SW FL's, but I can see those businesses are working, including customer satisfaction.

You might don't want to have high expectations, but that is another story. Own many seem proud of banging girls for 300baht. We read this here.

So either you take them in your (nearby?) hotel or take advantage of a 350thb ST room (nearby too, as I do no think the nana girls like to stroll on higher Sukh, for instance, even by taxi: time taken from work! What I meant is that a well organized establishment can run such a price, even if it provides more (room+towels / shower) just as low cost arilines do the same route at a fraction of the major airline. It is all about standardization of costs. Maybe the girls accept lower fees (than the 1000 as a FL) in exchange of a more safe environment, a range of customers being brought in by the franchise etc, ie more chances to get more customers in a day than in the streets.

Lots of ST rooms go for 350. Say DrBj keeps 400 and give 600 to the girl: impossible? I don't think so.

First of all I don't mind if people try to learn Thai. By all means. But I have to share what I have heard from several girls both freelanceladies and regular girls. What they all have told me is that they don't like foreign people to speak Thai. Very few can handle it and better for use in the supermarket / governmental buildings than in mongersituation with a girls present.

As far as I know they are not impressed at all and in fact they like that foreign people speak english and that is it.

Atleast regarding the regulargirls (wine and dine and doing the proper date routine) speaking Thai will not get you faster into the interesting business if I stick to my information provided by girls interviewed by me in english.

I was reading that there is a holiday coming up on Oct. 23rd. Will the bars, gogos and massage places be closed? If so I will try to book someone for some fun on that day. Will be their Oct. 15th. 25th.
