Many working girls cannot speak English better than many guys who live here and who have made the effort to learn Thai. I cannot count the number of girls who have told me they were so relieved and happy to go home with a guy they could converse with. If it does anything, it just weeds out all the girls who want to pull the wool over your eyes or precisely the ones who are scared of the guys who roo maak (know too much) and know they can't get away with the crap they normally try to pull.

As for regular girls, I'd say every single one I've dated has made nice comments on my trying to learn her language, and I probably get more points for at least seeming like I am here for the culture (baaah). The "regular" girls who recoil when I speak Thai I've pretty quickly discovered have usually had previous farang boyfriends who helped pay for expensive apartments or other such gifts (all the while these girls take such incredible pride in pointing out that they are NOT working girls and don't need farang money).

And if we are talking about that incredibly large segment of the population who work regular day jobs, don't make huge salaries, and don't go out to bars or discos very often because they are busy with work and not overly well off. Well, I'd venture to say that the only way you'd ever be making headway into dating most of these girls would be by speaking Thai.

I just disagree with some of what you say, as it is not based on a full understanding of the big difference between very bad Thai including lots of impolite words picked up from bar girls, and better conversational Thai, in the eyes of the listener. I go to the Bradman pub and I get to here Farangs speaking what sounds like ugly Thai to me. I can't tell if I sound much better.

I agree with your comments that Thai is not in any way needed for casual mongering encounters when talking is not so important. I go to an MP, not for conversation or arguments but for sex. Sure whoever is interested to learn Thai can. Others need not. Its a lot of effort. So must consider how much need to use it would occur. I have been using it 50% of days for years, even when not in Thailand.

So just be prepared to hear different points of view. Anyone who makes claims here as to be prepared for others to disagree.

It's going to be interesting as to who and how many will visit BB'S and possibly more importantly will revisit. Normal FS in an oily with a "massage" costs 1900. Those familiar with the scene know where the best looking and best performers are and IMHO the 1900 is money well spent. So now you can get it for 1000 (or buy one get one free). I can see regular mongers strolling by catching a glance of the "talent" while the more hardboiled will wander in to have a look at the menu. Emmmmmmmm should I or should I not, not great looking, a bit long in the tooth, oh what the hell I'll give that one a spin and see how it goes. See you strolling around 7/1.

I learned a bit of Japanese, not much, and have, and will never be immersed in it. But it does help me tremendously when in Japan, in every aspect of life, and particularly in mongering.
