Another thing that may or may not be a minus: If you don't like burning tobacco, smoking is on the up in Thailand in general, but in Chiang Mai it's everywhere. Chiang Rai's the same too.
While that may be true, I've never paid much attention to it one way or another; but, breathing the polution in BKK is about the same as smoking two packs cigarettes a day. I don't complain about people smoking as long as they don't complain about my farting.
I have 10 days in Thailand, I wanted to know which is better Bangkok or Pattaya.
I prefer Pattaya but everyone has different tastes.
You could also try Phuket

Any evidence to support that claim?

Only what the medical office where I work tells us. It's one of the reasons they pay us extra to work in BKK.

Right, so basically, nothing concrete.

Besta Cyber 8 - the new ones are cyber 11 but this is good enough. New ones are 14,000B, this one cost me 11,000 when the B was 42:1 or so I'm surprised it's not in there - about everything else is

Only common sense that breathing all that polution in BKK, escecially some places along Sukhumvit, can't be good for your lungs.

RA,
Thank you, I understand the concept of Pollution and the possible Lung Damage, I just wanted to know if you were sure how bad it was because if it is the equivalent of 2 packs of Cigarettes a day then it is awfully scary.
Nothing against you, I just wanted to make sure I can still wander the streets of bangkok without that horrifying thought in my mind.

It's the particulate matter that you have to be concerned about. With all the diesel trucks and busses spewing out black shit from their exhausts and you breathing it in can't be good for you. Especially the areas under the BTS stations. Nana and Sukhumvit/Asoke BTS stations are excellent examples.

Its why I never stay in Bangkok too long, and would never ever live there. The amount of particulate matter (especially from diesel engines) is horrific.
If you stay in Bangkok in an apartment, you can see even after a few days that the floor of any balcony starts to pick up a layer of this dust. The maids in serviced apartments clean it up so most people do not notice it, unless they are living in their own place.

By the way, all odor is particulate. Really think about that next time someone breaks wind near you.
That said, Bangkok isn't the only large city in Asia with a severe air pollution problem. Laws that regulate vehicle exhaust don't exist in Asia so far as I know.
By the way, all odor is particulate.
Eh?! No it's not. Methane, hydrogen sulphide, etc are particles? Back to school time...

Food For Thought
” Federal agents at the border do not need any reason to search through travelers’ laptops, cell phones or digital cameras for evidence of crimes, a federal appeals court ruled Monday, extending the government’s power to look through belongings like suitcases at the border to electronics. The unanimous three-judge decision reverses a lower court finding that digital devices were “an extension of our own memory” and thus too personal to allow the government to search them without cause. Instead, the earlier ruling said, Customs agents would need some reasonable and articulable suspicion a crime had occurred in order to search a traveler’s laptop. ” (04/22/08)

Hahahahaha sucks to live in the US of A, but when you thing about it, would you not rather they search your Laptop and Electronics instead of stuffing their fingers up your asshole looking for "Evidence of Crimes"? LOL
