The link for the study itself is in the link I provided. And the writer merely repeats what was found in the study to expound on it. Some of the other sources required a subscription to read. But The Hill did not. That is the only reason I chose that one to post.
So you've still got nothing to refute the stats on "red non-liberal" USA state and city murder rates as revealed in that study, huh? Duly noted.
Most homicides are in a very small part of the country. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/apr/25/most-murders-occurred-in-5-percent-of-countys-says/.
90% are run by Dems. Often in "Red" states. See Memphis, Tenn. Most common factor, street gangs. Often with tough gun laws that are not enforced by Soros backed DAs. Look at the convicted murderers and you will find multiple armed assauts and robberies before they finally murdered someone, yet the perps were walking the streets. I live in a state where people have a lot of guns, we like to hunt and target shoot. Everyone I know has rifles and handguns. Open carry is legal, lots of people with concealed carry permits. Yet very few gun crimes or murders. Then again we don't have street gangs.
