Flew into Macau from Manila last week and then cab straight to Rio. Got there about 11 pm. They took my hold luggage behind the desk and I put my hand luggage in the locker. Some notes:

- I stayed overnight, leaving the next day at 8 am.

- whilst I used a few of the services I didn't take a girl after being drained from a week in Phils.

- the no-smoking ban was being rigorously enforced! Much to the chagrin of some of the Chinese punters.

Total bill around $1200 - better for me than a night in a cheap hotel.

My favourite place for comfortable sleeping was Sanado Sauna, but this was unfortunately closed. Here are my own experiences, I would appreciate if others could add some information about sleeping in other saunas in order to make a more complete overview:

1. Sanado Sauna (one room with appr. 20 bunk beds, fresh, comfortable bedding, privacy ok due to thick curtains) = Sauna closed.

2. Familia Nobre (appr. 20 to 30 private rooms with single beds, 2 rooms with bunk beds, private rooms OK, bunk rooms quite uncomfortable due to missing or very hard mattresses).

3. East Spa Club (rooms with appr. 8 to 10 bunk beds, bedding OK, but noisy and no privacy due to thin curtains).

I was working over the weekend in HK and too busy to make it to Macau on Friday and Saturday. Wan Chai was too far from where I was staying and action began too late given my work schedule, so everything needed to be saved for Sunday night.

The numbers.

1 night (18 Jan 2015).

10 hours in the spas, cumulative time.

9000 HKD spent in total.

There is certainly some cost saving when using a package, but it is difficult to compare across saunas. I would suggest approaching it by sauna choice first, and then trying to take the best package for that sauna. Different stores in the ferry terminal in the Sheung Wan MTR / ferry terminal offer packages for different saunas.

Sleep is fine in the saunas, even in the lounge chairs, particularly with the elimination of smoking in most saunas. The rooms will vary, but Familia Nobre, for example, offers a quiet no frills room, in which one should have no trouble sleeping, particularly after enjoying a few hours in the sauna.

Theres definitely lots to explore and sample, you may want to try out multiple places in one night if the schedule fits. Personally I would do eighteen if the lineup hasnt deteriorated much, because Rio has nice facilities and neither Rio or FN have a particularly large lineup as eighteen. I stay at the Metropark 10 yr ago is ok just a low cost 3 star hotel with tiny room, you can get deal on hotel room on weekday at the same place you get the package in HK I saw they have special at the Century hotel for 480 hkd a night room there is large free shuttle to ferry terminal, if you never been to East spa the pool show is a must Rio have better looking girls.
