The beach within the city limits didn't impress me much, but they have a cable car taking you to a very nice Oranjana (sp) beach. Although did I mention it was 15 years ago? During the week it's pretty much dead, but weekends are busy, when people come from Curitiba and even from São Paulo to spend the weekend on the beach. Lots of Spanish speaking tourists also.

Praia das Laranjeiras is packed during the weekends and a good place to have a lunch or a drink. You can take the cable car to go there and Passeio San Miguel, with many restaurants, is nice place for dinner. Take a taxi from the airport to BC, but Uber is way to go when moving around if you don't want to walk.

However, one place that came across my radar was Belas de Campinas, in the bairro of Campinas, where the going rate was 120 per half hour.
