There are NO apartments on the beach here, as opposed to Cartagena. The closest thing would be to rent a house in Playa Mendoza or some where near that, about 20 minutes from Barranquilla.

What is the cost of a ride to cartagena, Laguito area? Is it fairly safe in the daytime? Anyone have a taxi driver they recommend who speaks some English?

This is a VAN service, here you have to share a vehicle,but it is a lot cheaper,I believe COL$25000 a seat or so.A cab would cost you around COL$150.000 depending on the driver, with gas prices and tolls on the rise, but you can still negotiate.And yes it is pretty safe to ride during daytime. Just to wait until I arrive and then call their office and phone number in Barr.? Do they have cabs to Cart every hour or so? Thanks alot. Its easier to get a flight to Barr than it is to Cart. How long is the ride to Cart? About an hour or 45 Minutes?

I am not sure if they have an office right at the Airport ( VAN SERVICE), a cab you can take at the Airport and they might have a fixed non negotiable rate, ride about 1 hour and 45 minutes on the average, anyhow here is my phone number,I live here in bquilla. 011 575 3784656 as you would dial from America, Cheers, Peter.

I tried to get a ride from Barr to Cart. last night thru invertours and got the attempted gringo upcharge.

I called from the airport to see if they would pick me up and they said no, you don´t have a reservation. So I went to the station, in el centro, about 35 minutes away by taxi. When I arrived at 6 pm and they saw I was only one person, despite there being others at the terminal, they said the van to Cart. was closed for the night (lie) and there would be no more shuttle service; HOWEVER they offered to give me an "express" van ride by myself for 130,000 pesos instead of their normal rate of 25,000.

I had another person drive me to Cart. for 110,000. The road tolls appeared to be 15,000 each way with 2 toll stops. Thus the driver made about 80,000 pesos for 3 hours of driving time.

So much for counting on Invertours del Carribe. taxi would have been alot quicker and the same price.

BTW the road is well manned with national police at every 10 miles. The total distance was 109 killometers, about 60 miles and took about 1 and 1/2 hours.

All the seats to Cart were full, except for business class, so it was cheaper to fly into Barr then travel to Cart. Not much scenery until you get close to Cart, then the ocean view is enjoyable.

Sounds like you work for the company with your defense of them. You have no first hand knowledge, so why are you defending them instead of brother NGP477? Sounds like they tried to pull the bait and switch on a Senior Member. If he does not recommend it, then thats good enough for me.
