This was my first trip to Macau. Great little city. Hilarious blend of European, Chinese and Vegas! Enough sites to keep you busy for a day or two. Very walkable and I didn't take a single tax during the two night trip. Spent the first night at Familia Nobre and the second night at the Lisboa. I really enjoyed the Lisboa as the room and hotel in general captured the vibe of Macao!

Familia Nobre:

I took the ferry over from Hong Kong and walked over to Familia Nobre (30 min walk). Thought it would be nice to stretch my legs before camping out in a sauna for 18 hours. I arrived about 5:30 PM and the shower and main room were relatively empty. The facilities are ok but definitely showing wear. During my time there the staff was non-aggressive and very polite. English proficiency was pretty low. Fine for ordering food or requesting services but no real chatting with the servers or massage girls. Food was OK and Tsingtao beer costs about $4 USD per can. Most of the other patrons were Chinese and about half of those were smoking (despite the recent ban). I hate smoke but it honestly never got too bad although I would guess that a busier weekend night might be a different story. I don't think they had WiFi although I didn't ask the staff (didn't see a network). I mostly watched the Chinese TV or read my kindle book on my iPhone (King Rat if you are curious) while I was hanging out. They do have iPhone charging cords next to at least some chairs.

I spent most of my time in a chair near the corridor that the ladies walk down on their way to or from a lineup. Very useful for trying to get eye contact or a smile from them. For some stupid reason, I decided not to lock my phone and watch in the little cubbies while taking my shower to leave, and water got in the bag. My phone was on the fritz and I turned it off immediately (iPhone 6). Luckily, after I aired it out for 36 hours, it came back to life on its own. If this happens, DO NOT try to turn it on again or charge it. Just dry it out. No hairdryer-- leave it out to dry, maybe in the sun if possible or with a breeze. Luckily Apple replaced my phone (for another reason).

Works great in the saunas, at the beach, pool, lockerroom, and on boats. The iphone / ipad screens can also still be used when its zipped up BTW. An ipad size one has room for your phone, condoms, cash, ect. I picked it up after my first sauna visit and has served me well many times since.

Also in case you ever have a similar electronic problem again, put the phone / device in a bag with uncooked rice. The rice works as a desiccant and will absorb the moisture faster.

BTW in my frantic research during "watergate", I learned the rice trick is largely an urban myth. Doesn't do much and keeping your phone inside a Baggie prevents air circulation. If you have the little silica desiccant packs those work well in a ziploc.
