Also was talking to an American who married a Thai wife and did a culture study in school in Thailand. He lived her 20 years. He told me about that famous this smile as he learned in Thai cultural school. He said it is fake. He says Thais are aggressive people and they smile to relax you. At first that did not make sense to me but then he says. Did you ever see the Thais flip that switch meaning when they get angry. I said ya they go crazy! Then it made sense to me.
Harsh words, true words. This country we live in is insane. But unfortunately amazingly beautiful insane, this while we are still here and this while still tourist's flocking in. I love this country, but I know the nightmare sides of this country as well. Just try to stay out of the biggest troubles, go your own way and do your business. That's it.

By the way here there are many massage places that are just brothels. It will say Thai massage, foot massage 200, oil massage 300, then its 1000 for the girl. Don't pay the 300 for the oil massage because you are not getting any massage there. Unless you consider having a girl splash oil on you with no interest then after 5 minutes of being all slimy they they say you want boom boom. If you want a real massage go to one of the many real massage places there.
That is so true about the massages being worthless, LOL. BTW good update.
Many of the hotels lowered their prices because of lack of tourist. Perfect for me. LOL. Just enough tourist to keep the girls here. I feel kinda like I have the place to myself. Pattaya has a better feel than BKK. Bangkok feel like it has been taken over by the Muslims. That is why if you have a bag you are screen before you go on the public train ect. Pattaya has many places that look very different. Many new shops and even by the BIG see the area around it is being remodeled. Beach street at night probably has the most girls I have ever seen. Hundreds of girls. Some of the short time massage places is 200 for the room and 1000 for the girl. But some girls will try to charge 1500 tip making up a lie that they have to pay the house 500. I would just get dressed and say forget get it too expensive also knowing she is trying to over charge me. Go downstairs and pic one of her coworkers and they are fine with 1000 tip. No talk about paying the house 500.

I didn't know of the fact that many hotels lowering their prices this time of the year, because now is supposed to be high season. But good for you and others that can benefit from low hotel prices.
It seems like not so many tourists are coming to Pattaya right now, as one could expect in a high season month like this. It would be interesting to know the reason for this. Is it still maybe the after effects from the King's death earlier this fall?
My theory is this job is hard on the woman. I think some are ashamed at what they done. So they start covering their body with tattoos so people don't look at them they look at their tattoos. The longer the girls have been in the business the more tattoos they have. Many have huge tattoos covering their whole back. Their whole side of Thai. Makes sense if you think about it. Almost like having a huge curtain for them to hide behind.

Getting tattoos is simply just one of those trendy things people like to follow and copycat each other. Look at young girls in your home country, like the USA. I start to see many young people getting tattoos. It's because these young people see their celebrity idols getting tattoos, and they think it's cool so they start getting them and it just spreads like that.
Same with Thai bargirls. They see their friends getting tattoos and now they want one because they think it looks cool and it's the 'in' thing or some weird status symbol. You have to realize a lot of these girls are like young people anywhere else that tend to have a lot of disposable income. They get bored and spend their free time looking for things to buy. So they want to get a tattoo because they think it looks good and it spreads to other girls.

You will notice far fewer Chinese tourists on Walking Street than last year.
There are many articles of late regarding the decline in tourism. In fact, there is one today regarding Pattaya tourism being down possibly because Pattaya is no longer the cheap vacation destination it once was with tourists now turning to Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, etc.

Land of Smiles is more a marketing campaign than anything. Do they get angry with morons who categorize them, sure. No need to give your nationality its all too obvious.

Thai may not find working in the sex-industry the best job there is, but by no means it carries the social stigma it has in western culture. It is not inherently something to be ashamed of.

The Thai smile is not fake at all. It just isn't the same as our western smile and has many more different meanings. Thai smile because they are happy, to hide embarrassment, to apologize, to make up again, to make you feel good, to relax, or simply because they have no clue what this silly farang means or is up to.
By the same token I can say that US Americans are an aggressive people since for no reason they pull a gun and kill half of their co-workers or school-friends.

Really, someone who did cultural studies should know better than making such overgeneralizations.

The fuck shops that are disguised as massage parlors (Soi Chaiyapoom) there is no reason to pay the price for a phony massage. You should probably tell them up front though that you only want boom boom and no massage. Even to me these places do not give me value for money when I can go to a normal massage shop, get a real outcall massage for 500 and throw in an extra 500 to fuck all in the comfort of my own crib.

Greetings, finally my boots on the ground.
Last night went to script as per usual on Walking Street. Around 8 pm or so when the gogo's start opening, not a whole lot of people but I still see masses of tour groups led by their leader with the flag. So tourists are still there. An hour or so later and then it starts getting crowded. May get busier as these last week or so of the year's end sees a lot of crowds.
Went to a few gogo's including Sensations. Lots of hot chicks but was not interested in barfining any.
Today went down to Soi 6, walked up and down just to see the sights.

I agree with you that when I see a hot massage girl I make arrangements for her come over on her day off. No 200-300 extra charge and most come over for 1000 including massage, if wanted, and boom boom.
I recently had a great massage from one of these non massage places on Central Avenue. Better than the top end Health Land massage I paid 990 baht for.

I see you making it on to the Pattaya One News site shortly.
First have another Gin and tonic and relax. Maybe my last sentence was unclear. You always have to pay a house fee. I am talking about one girl I had an experience with that outside of the house fee. Wanted me to pay her 1500 baut which was more than any other girl in the same shop. When I asked her why she says the boss makes her pay 500 baut each customer. So she was lying! The point of my story was not to tell a story for entertainment. It was to help guys that are here not get suckered.
There are guys on this site that are just miserable. They go through each sentence of a post and try to attack the poster. This is the exact reason I don't write detailed trip reports anymore. It just a waste of my breath.

First Sir this is just my opinion about bar girls and tattoos. I do understand how some are for luck etc. But, you can usually tell how long a girl works by how many tattoos she has. Many of these girls go a little overboard with these tattoos. Maybe in western culture tattoo are style. But, in my opinion when I see a Thai girl covered in Thai tattoos to me it means she is a bar girl. I think many Thais would assume this also because many Thais not in the sex industry don't have these tattoos.
