The best models are found outside the US, in places like Taiwan, Thailand, New Zealand, and Australia. And though policy is important, the key is compliance. The former doesn't mean two shits without the latter.

Many of the BLM demonstrations were peaceful and much of the violence perpetrated by heavy handed law enforcement or counter protests.

Communism is the ownership of the means of production by the people. A bit like corporations but more towards cooperatives vs socialism which is the means of production owned by the state. Communism wants everyone to benefit from their own labour, not work for billion dollar companies for $7 an hour and get fired if they complain.

Eventually if there is not equitable wealth generation the downtrodden masses tend to lop of the heads of the smug wealthy and take it for themselves.

This rosy outlook on communism is only developed by people who either lack education on business and economy, or have too much or limited education in liberal arts and other nonproductive degrees.

Americans have been told every night how many COVID deaths there have been. Rarely are we told that there are a similar amount of deaths in Western Europe.

No one would argue that an extreme lockdown strictly enforced would yield results. The question is always for how long. The novel coronavirus is so adept at spreading it appears it comes roaring back when lockdowns have been relaxed. We should also all agree the initial USA Lockdown was not initiated with a goal of eradication.

I don't think it is lost on anyone that three of the four countries you noted are island nations in the Asia Pacific region where frequent viruses have been more of a threat. Lockdowns on their own haven't been the only factor in combating virus. How well a country rolled out initial testing, number of initial cases at the onset, culture, level of government control, etc. All have played a part.

My point was that conservatives have their own media which is often extremely biased. New York had a terrible start, much of it due to logistics as a major hub for international travel, plus heavy use of mass transit for commutes. But they smashed the curve from May to Nov, and were rightly highly praised for that. Many lives were saved during that period with good policy and compliance. Though they have seen a second wave, but with a much lower death rate. It still all comes down to compliance with sound protocols, of which Florida has seen little, and thus their successes have been few. Policy has also been an embarrassment as Desantis intervened to prevent local governments from enforcing mask mandates and restaurant closures. So your complaints about NY as compared to FL in media coverage is a product of being fed half-truths from conservative media. There are distinct differences.

But there has been much working against this in the states, with arrays of misinterpretations of the Constitution, quacks, pseudo-scientific disinformation, election related conspiracy theories, anti-maskers, downplaying, minimizing, "it's no worse than the flu" or "it will go away on it's own when the weather turns cold" nonsense. Much of this has been fueled by conservative media, and of course the former president and his cronies. I did nothing more than point out that by definition pretty much everything that Canada attributes to communism is by definition not communism. However whilst the right is busily describing the evils of socialism they happily walk down the path of fascism that Trump was clearly leading them. Loyalty to dear leader, ignoring the laws and institutions of government, demonising minorities, forming private militias, a well oiled propaganda machine. At least 82 million Americans could see the truth.
