You might even say that you have been deceived by the owner. On the other hand, if you go in an apartment which is visibly not a dutiful business you are much more in trouble, as you won't be able to find a plausible excuse.

Trouble for both customer and the business perhaps?

Personally I've always viewed the No Men Allowed sign as a safe haven as the place is clearly licensed and likely that the owner is paying his 'taxes'.
