The Colmado is convienent and not noisy at all, the landlord is an old Dominican guy that lived in the states for quite some time and retired to the island. He coughs a lot, and loud in the middle of the night, but not too much of a problem.

I'm in the process of looking for another place as they are almost finished with a Nice apartment building near where I live and the 2 bedrooms are going for 5k with parking. I plan on buying a car and the secure parking would be a must.

I have parked my rental in front of my house and neighborhood kids have hit it while playing and one day I found the hood unlocked but nothing was taken.

I'll take some pictures of the area when I'm down next Friday.

In Cuba prostitution is illegal hence you will not find any brothels, strip clubs, casas...
Chicas are constantly threatened by the police, you will not be able to walk around with your girl in public.
You can bring girls into your hotel but this is very expensive, most casas particulares are not girl friendly, or the girls get registered by the landlord of your casa. Landlords are required to show their registration book once a month to the cuban authorities.
In cuba public transportation is a pain in the ass, in order to check out havana( or wherever you are going to stay) you will 1 spend alot of money on taxis ( for tourists) colectivos are only for cubans, or 2 you will have to rent a car.

Tourist centers/areas, all over the country, but especially in havana have a heavy police presence ( Vedado, centro de havana, Miramar...) so your best option will be to get a casa a bit outside of havana, in order to avoid the police and to enjoy some cubanas.

If you bring US dollars to cuba, every time you are going to exchance money there will charge you 10% fine. In Cuba there are 2 currencies 1 peso cubano which cubans use and which does not buy you anything. 2 peso convertible which you will use to pay tourist taxis, beer, chicas....

Havana is a dangerous city especially at night avoid dark street try to hang out in groups. The only time i got robbed in my life was in havana.

Cuba is illegal for most US citizens with the potential of a $75, 000 fine. Not worth it for me. DR with some money you can have a blast.

I only have enough for one trip in 2011 and I want it to be memorable. Woman wise, which destination is more appealing?

Being its your first trip I would suggest Black Beards because everything is basic and predictable and you can figure out if you want to expand from there.

I guess since you only have enough for one trip this is a biggie to you. Black Beards has the pricing structure already established, plus a bar and easy enviornment. Don't over think this GO TO BB.

Once you break your international mongering virginity, and can up your trips with more frequency then expanding is an option.

Colombia is the greatest place on earth to me. But the DR has the fire and spice. Colombia is something you have to graduate to. Its a different vibe with different creatures. You have to have some game, and learn how to play under its rules. The DR is wide open and free, it uzes sex. Plus the DR has enough bravado to initially excite you. Once you go you will be counting your pennies for a return.

I am not a fan of BB. I think you can do better on your own. If I want to save money I just go out on my own. If I want to have a more organzied trip I go to a more upscale trip, then I spend a little more money. So what are you thinking of spending?
