We give Cuba Dave and others far too much credit for influencing what goes on in places like Sosua. Indeed, I think some guys place far too much importance on their own abilities to influence what goes down. They complain, threaten not to go back, as if a monger can change anything except his own way to spend time.
What I see going down there reminds me of 2 friends I had who did business in the Bahamas. One owned the main taxi business in Freeport and had happily lived there for years. They changed the rules one day and decided not to renew his visa / work / stay permit whatever, and he was forced to sell his business. But there were no takers, because the local mafia politicians made it clear they didn't want any. He was forced to give everything up for basically nothing and move back, broke, to Canada.
The other guy, was sent to Nassau to boost the sales of a national soft drink brand, by reorganizing an old inefficient bottling plant. He took his wife there and bought a house to live there permanently. After two years, when the business was a success he too was given notice to leave.
So when I see the list of all the business people arrested, deported whatever, from Sosua, and they are all foreigners and victims of unpredictable "rule changes" it looks like an old game. The foreigners are making too much money, and the local pols and their friends want in. So they make the "rules". Get rid of the outsiders.
If they are really deporting these foreigners to "clean up" Sosua, and they really do get rid of the prostitution over the next couple years, I'll be happy to eat my words.
There's a bigger game going on here, and it's far above the heads of us mongers, no matter how much "intel" some guys think they have.
So in the meantime I share your great big "yawn", and will like you, continue my happy experiences there.
This was the exact same thing the guys at the table were talking about in reference to the guy being deported and losing all of his investments. King Kong himself has retired yet sublease 2 condos. Anyone thinking about investing a lot of money in DR is crazy. Why don't you buy a house and move there is what my friends ask me. At any given time I'm headed to Delta for a one way to the US when a problem occurs. I won't be able to get a hundred thousand dollar house investment in my pocket or pass US Customs. No I will just buy memories.

It's like Charles said" they might not get you next week or next year but eventually they will get you". This is directed at the big time investor and the broke ex pat that can barely buy a beer.
I'm wondering what now happens to Sosua bay hotel, it such a beautiful piece of property. I'm guessing Armondo will fight tooth and nail to save his interest in the hotel. If you really think about it; that hotel is the center piece of Sosua. Any major development of Sosua and the beach will have to take Sosua bay into consideration. My point is you can't let it become some rundown eyesore.

I'm sure we could live down there quite comfortably without a problem.
Unless you are thinking of investing in a high profile money making tax free enterprise you can relax.
It's all about money.

YES. Owner. NO. The hotel is running as usual. They are also in the process of doing some major upgrades to the hotel from the rooms to the phone / video system. When I was there they opened up the bar under the restaurant as a Sports Bar. Really cozy and cool.
Well guys I'm in DR right now and I can say everything is mostly exaggerated. The action is in rumbas and Classicos.
Right now it's a buyers market. Everything is extremely slow and the talent is extremely weak. This is my 15th time going to DR.
And I can tell you there's a lot of gutter trash. The really hot girls go to Classicos at night. I can tell you this is the first night in DR.
That I did not even bring a chica to my hotel. I don't know maybe I'm getting old or I have been to DR to many times. Or it's low season. But the talent is extremely wack. Nothing but fat and big belly. Some of these Dominican girls can make themselves look 100 x times better if they work out in the gym. DR women are extremely lazy when it comes to there body. They nothing like the Brazilians or Colombians.
Also a lot of these girls are quoting per hour? Anyways I will keep you guys posted on more info. I leave on Wednesday.
And also take my words with a grain of salt. If your a newbie. But for you veterans this has to be the worst dr trip ever. I only been here 3 days and I already want to go home.

Going to give La Romana and SP a run.

Stopped by Bar Central last night about 9 PM and there was a sign saying that no un-escorted women were allowed inside. The place was literally empty which typically is not the case on a Friday night at this time. I asked the bouncer at the door what this was all about and was informed that they didn't want several women hanging around inside the bar all the time with a few males inside. I really couldn't understand him well and I'm assuming that the signage was not something initiated by the owner. Seems very strange as though pressure is being put on Bar Central by somebody, and why aren't there any signs like that posted at Rumbas. Anybody know what this is all about?

I did notice a sign today at Rumbas but it said no arms, drugs, or inappropriate attire allowed. No mention of un-accompanied females allowed inside though.

Nuff said. If any business gets messed with they will be the first.

Just Google the 3 names and you'll get an idea of that property's bullshit. Guests have been evicted in the past without notice, when he govt. Has shut it down and guests had to find another hotel without a refund. You get no refund when you pay cash. The credit card fee is 18% to discourage using them. When I did stay there I use a credit card so I could report them and get a refund if they closed while I'm there or if service sucked. Service sucked because of water issues. You either had no water, cold water or a water leak. Also the bathtubs don't drain well, so you're standing in muck while showering.
Security is also weak. The girls know this, because many have been through there. The security at night is in the lobby, which is a long walk to your room in another building. If you have a crazy girl in your room, there is no phone to call for security. A taxi driver once came to my room during the day unannounced to inquire if I needed a taxi to the airport. Wrong day dude, but who let you walk to my door? I could've had a beef with this guy and now he's at my door. My final word on the Victorian House, you can do better. So stay at your own risk. Plus the staff is lazy. Very lazy. And why did they close the big gate that's directly in front of the Victorian House to have you walk from the lobby and across the property yo your room. Arriving or leaving, that's a long walk, either with your luggage or with a chica. I am usually suspect of someone who comes on ISG to pump up a hotel or other business. Warning people is one thing but pumping it up is another. It's either a hotel employee or someone getting an accommodation discount who is marketing a rotten hotel.
