Yep, there are many laws on the books and never get acted on. But you just don't know when someone is going to get a itch up their ass and act on one of them.
however, one of your sweet hearts, a business competitor etc only needs to go to the police and state that you've done this or that. now if this person, knows, someone etc.. police, immigration will act.
Yes, that can indeed happend but why wait until this happends to bribe? ;)
My company is already financing some Police/government employees (Gifts, invitation to parties...) and until today, they always helped us when we got trouble (we did last year). This is Thailand.
Daddy San,
Hmmmm....I don't know of all this rules, but ... let me tell you how I see this issue:
The law was made for the Westerners, Thailand is much better in everything, so don't worry, USA. We trace what people do even in internet cafe's (that is completely impossible, btw.).
We remember this American Senator coming to Bangkok, getting in touch with some prostitution areas (of course not because he wanted to, it was just by chance LOL LOL LOL :) ) ... and then suddenly the Health Minister of the Thaksin administration announced that there is no prostitution in Thailand at all ... bla bla bla.
Now - in Livingstone's Lodge all this is a bit different, this is German Management. Of course we register, what WebSites you access, and we have this In-Room cameras to directly transfer all activities in the room to the internet - perfectly German organized and working ... so don't worry, we comply to the Thai law - hundred percent! We are - the real Thai's.

I of course knew about your in-room cameras at LL.
They were not concealed very well as of my last stay at the beginning of this year.
But I thought they served solely to monitor the performance of your Sports Bar ladies as part of your TQM programme.
Be carefull passing this material to the authorities. Some of those "born again" morons might even consider it pornograhic..

Went looking for special chocolates in Emporium today.
Shouldn't have bothered.
Selection was not that wide and at 45 Baht per piece I was astonished by the price.
Recently I bought a 40 piece pack of the best chocolates ever from "Bitter und Zart" in Frankfurt for 25 Euros, being a selection of the very best from Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, etc. That works out to be probably around 25-30 Baht per piece.
Anyway decided to buy from the Belgium chocoaltes shop Duc d'Prasline just outside Soi 33 for 18-20 Baht per piece instead.
As I had copied Fifty-fifty to buy an Olympus mju 1030SW camera (O.K. in water to 10m, virtually shock proof, and very small), I decided to just check the price in Emporium.
Nearly double the Australian airport price.
So in Emporium, stick to looking at the pretty girls, or visit the nearby Oiles. Don't buy anything too significant.
On my last visit to Bangkok, I remember sitting inside Nana at that bar just inside on the right watching the world go by, as I do everyday day/night, sipping beer, if not there, then at the bar right on the corner (names escape me) or across at the Golden Beer Bar at Nana Hotel.
Anyway, one evening, I remember sipping beer and squeezing a girls thigh when a van backed into Nana and came to a holt at the ‘T’ as you walk in. Two dodgy looking guys got out, left the motor running and walked back out against the current into a wave of googly eyed tourist, bar touts, girls doing makeup while walking to work, ladyboys doing the same in addition to flicking their hair every 30 seconds (the best giveaway) and, well, us mongers….walking with intent.
It occurred to me, albeit, after quite a few Tigers and after three or four minutes had passed and no one paying the slightest attention to the van, that given the current world political climate, what an easy way for an extremist organisation to make their statement, buy blowing me and my Tiger beer and everything within a 50 metre radius to smithereens using a van packed full of explosives.
As an Aussie, with Bali in mind and the impending execution of those you know whats, with Indonesia, the largest Muslim/Islamic state on Australia’s and Thailand doorstep, there are some ideal opportunities in Thailand - Phuket, Koh Samui, Pattaya to deliver their perverted message against the West. (bearing in mind of course that it is a very small percentage of extremist Muslims that believe this ideal). And the added excuse - perverted Westerners indulging in the sex trade.
Or what about Bangkok itself - Nana at 1am, Soi Cowboy, Patpong - have you ever wandered around Patpong at around 4pm when there are forklifts darting about moving large strong boxes around for the stall owners in readiness for the nights rip-off? One box full of explosives would do a bit of damage.
Jeez, thank God (or whatever/whoever, if any….maybe half the problem) for the peace loving beliefs of the Thai race, perhaps the reason why it hasn’t happened as casualties against the ‘West’ would result in local casualties too. Still, Balanese people died as well.
With all that being said, I’ll be there in a few weeks, drinking Tigers, and hopefully running my hand up a hot girls leg while watching the world go by and counting how many times a LB flicks the hair, because, at the end of the day, extremists of any belief have the will power to cause havoc anywhere, including my hometown. But just wanted to throw it out there……..amongst the great reports that have been posted of late.
Cheers.

That's not an unfounded fear. There has been lots of discussion among those in the counter intelligence field about how perfect the entrance to Nana Plaza is for an attack as you describe.
I dont know where else to post this so.
I come from the UK to bkk and I wanna ask what should I do about the money situation. Bring my pounds and exchange them there, if yes whats the best place? or is better to use my debit card at ATM's?

Not only the entrance, which is also the only exit, and the layout in general. It's a firetrap.

Just another reason on why I don't go to Nana Plaza.

I was thinking the same about Nana and Patpong after Bali first attack.
That is the main reason that I am not going to Nana any more although I am staying nearby when in BKK.
Patpong might go for a quick walk around to get the feeling of it. Don't go to any bars there too.
I prefer to have my drinks at Gulliver's on soi 7.

Patpong is different from Nana because they have several entrances and exits. Not just one choke point like Nana that if sealed becomes a killing ground.

That way you aren't walking around with lots of cash nor do you have to worry about locking it up in your room. You should carry a reserve, for emergencies (such as traveler's cheques), but don't travel with lots of cash, too risky.
Have fun.
Patpong is different from Nana because they have several entrances and exits. But if you are among the dead becausw you were in the wrong bar at the wrong time, the total figures arent't that important to you, are they.

Suppose you mean Soi 5. Or do you mean the Gulliver's in Khao San, or the one in Pattaya?
