I got in a taxi, told him where my hotel was located but he insisted on taking my to Patpong.
After telling him no for the 3rd or 4th time I got out the taxi and slammed the door.

When we didn't want to go he made us get out on a deserted road.

KS Road is full of backpackers thinking they know it all- and trying to get another back packer into bed in the 20 plus bed dormitories.
Mongering starts in the low number sois an Sukhumvit Road. Soi Nana to Soi 33 and then on to Ekami. More up-market and you hit Ratcha.
When a driver pulls crap like that, I do a really passive-aggressive thing: I get out of the taxi but [b]leave the passenger door open[/b], so the driver has to get out, walk around, and close it. Similarly, if the driver doesn't offer to help me with my bags (all I want is for him to offer) , I just [b]leave the trunk open[/b] so that he has to get out, walk around, and close it. For taxi drivers, time is money, so anything that costs him time also costs him money.

This reminds me a few months ago I was walking toward the entrance to Rainbow 4 and there was a drunk backpacker type. Dreadlocks and just a filthy look to him, had his pants down to his ankles and his dirty looking underwear showing and was spewing nonsense out of his piehole. All the Thai body guards just looked at him like he was an idiot, too bad they didn't clobber the guy, one of the very few times I wished ill will towards another foreigner. LOL

I apologize if I'm posting my question in a wrong place. I am almost ready for my trip to BKK and need to figure out where to change cash and how to get my smart phone turn into local BKK phone.
- Do I change all the cash in the airport, or only enough to get me to the hotel? Do I change the rest in the bank or at some change point?
- Do I get SIM at the airport? I would need SIM to do some texting, some calls and data (unless the latter is expensive). In short. I'd like my smart phone to work in BKK similar to the way it works in the West. Or should I get the SIM card in the city?

A[/QUOTE]Get your sim at the airport. DTAC has a 199 baht special for 1 Gig of data for a week and they will set up the APN for you. Changing money is fairly reasonable at the airport. But you can find better rates in the city if you are bringing in 100 dollar notes. I would just change enough to get you in the city and then go find a change place or bank. If you get in before 11 or so you can ride the train in the city.
